Re: Cold weather shooting
Yeah, that was a freezing cold.but great range trip! The little guys enthuisam impressed me even more than your ability to smack that 250 yard gong with your M48!
Re: Cold weather shooting
I go by Dayton sportsman everyday while flintlock hunting and think " I should go shoot my new pistol". Then i think wow its 10 degrees out and snow. I dont see myself going until its at least 35 out. You guys are crazy.
Re: Cold weather shooting
My 18 y/o son and I went out to the state gamelands range near Wexford on Sat. We even dragged the wife along. She fired a few, but that was it. I actually did pretty well! My son has a Glock 21 and I have a Glock 17.
Re: Cold weather shooting
You guys make me feel ashamed... I've been wanting to get the Garand out but it's too darned cold. Now I see your boy out there. Way to go!
Re: Cold weather shooting
10 of us shot a CMP practice match at PMSC Sunday morning. It was 9 degrees with some wind and snow flakes added in.
Re: Cold weather shooting
i havent gone so far this seson. lst year, the only time i went to public ranges was when it was freezing. it keeps the jackasses and morons away; only the hardcore shooters come out to play.
my brother and me once almost got stuck at a range; the road was just a sheet of ice, and we kept sliding back. eventually, a guy in a truck gave us a push up the rest of the way. i've gone shooting in snow, freezing rain, and sub zero temps. it's nice when the range is empty: no mag limits, no range officers, just me, my gear, and those poor, poor targets.
Re: Cold weather shooting
How else are you supposed to practice for when you need your weapon in the cold? Invasions of home or country do not wait for good weather conditions (ask the Russians).

Re: Cold weather shooting
I was able to get several times in December. I'm now itching to get out again as I want to try out a new hand load in my rifle. But it's been so windy, constant 15 mph with gusts to 40. Might be calm enough tomorrow, I'll see.
One advantage of the cold is that the barrel won't get too hot!
