Background check question
Will a gun purchase background check fail if I have warrants for unpaid tickets? Just kinda curious if anybody has had personal experience with this.
I got a few tickets for driving with a suspended drivers license and expired inspection a few years ago and have about 3 years until I can get my drivers license back so I don’t want to try and fight the ticket and lose for still not having a license or plead guilty and get more time added to my suspension. I don’t think the warrants are active anymore but they’re still warrants so I was wondering if anybody knows if it would come up on a background check or if they only look for bigger charges. I don’t have any felonies or other charges besides a ton of driving without a license on my record but all but these couple tickets are taken care of.

Re: Background check question
I'm guessing the tickets aren't the issue but rather the warrants, what the charges were, and what if anything you plead guilty too.
Best advice as always is consult with an attorney.

Yeah, I’m just trying to figure out if having a traffic ticket warrant will cause me to fail a background check for a firearm, I don’t have any felonies or violent crimes on my record. I could get them taken care of but I don’t want to add more time onto my license suspension and a lawyer told me it’s best to wait to respond to them closer to when I can get my license back.

Is your license suspended for DUI? And I believe when you get a 3rd ticket for driving DUI suspended license then it becomes a misdemeanor. The only advice I have for you is take care of your warrants.

Nope, never had a dui just drove on a suspended license a lot and got caught a lot too. I*ve stopped now for the past couple years and I*m working on getting my license back but just have to wait to be eligible, and part of the reason for not getting rid of the warrant is that I don*t want more suspension added on that would mess up my chance of getting my license back.
Re: Background check question
My "not a lawyer" opinion is that having an outstanding warrant makes you a "fugitive from justice", so you should either check "yes" on Form 4473 21 (d), which will stop the sale, or be aware that you are lying on the form, and may be subject to both denial when the warrant is found, and subsequent prosecution for lying on the form.
Or, maybe not, based on the info in post #12.
