Grab and Go Magazine Pouches - Be Prepared. What do YOU use?
10/11/23 EDIT: I renamed this thread since the reviewed items in the OP are no longer available for sale.
Don't scramble looking for ammo and magazines in an urgent situation.
Have a means of carrying extra ammo on you if you have to go to arms for any reason.
What's YOUR solution for having more rounds on hand without resorting to plate carriers and chest rigs, or shoving mags into your pocket?
A mob is kicking in doors! QUICK! What do you grab???
EDIT: New links
4 mag pouch https://www.midwayusa.com/product/939189814?pid=189814
8 mag pouch https://www.midwayusa.com/product/939488989?pid=991707
I finally picked up one of each of these to try out.
I grabbed an assortment of mags the other day to see what would fit and figured I'd take pics while I was at it.
Hopefully it helps someone who may have been thinking about getting these.
I like to have a few mags in some sort of "grab and go" configuration for each rifle.
Last year I snagged a few of the USGI 6-mag bandoliers and they are great for USGI AR15 mags, but I still needed something that would hold AK47 mags. Both of these work for that purpose.

The 4 mag pouch is a very simple carrier that is pretty straightforward. The only real "features" it has is the (narrow) shoulder strap and the fact that the cover flap can be folded down and held in place BEHIND the mags using the Velcro strip to have the mags "ready to grab".
It also has a large Velcro area on one flap that you can add your own patch to. Not super-useful, but it could be if you use patches to identify the bag's contents, or just want to add your own personal touch.
Additionally, there are 3 rows of MOLLE webbing on the back.
Simple and constructed well enough for my intended purpose.
I wouldn't pay full price, but if you catch them on sale or clearance, it's a hard deal to beat.
The 8 mag pouch is a much nicer design and is priced accordingly, although still a good value when they are on sale.
Instead of 4 individual pouches, there are 4 double mag pouches that have a wide band of elastic that runs across them to keep them snug, in addition to the cover flaps (with pull tabs) that secure with Velcro.
Each pouch has a drain hole in it and the closure flaps are adjustable in length by moving where they attach by Velcro in the back.
The cover flaps can be tucked in behind the mags, or even removed entirely if so desired.
The shoulder strap is basic, but wider than the one on the 4 mag pouch.
This mag pouch is slightly more heavy duty than the 4 mag pouch.
Again, I wouldn't pay the regular price, but when on sale, it's a good value.
These are not "chest rigs" - they are simply carriers for mags.
The shoulder straps make them handy to carry and they both "fold" slightly in the middle and conform to your body when wearing them on your side. There are no provisions for adding additional securing straps, but some could easily be fashioned if desired.
I'm happy with both and I may get another one or two in the future when I see them on sale.
Pics of each with mags inserted to follow...

Re: Review: Midway 4 and 8 Magazine Pouches for AR15/AK47
I bought several of the 8-mag pouches for us to use when we deploy our rifles at work (LE). We only put 4 magazines in the pouch. When we deploy the rifle, the just throw the pouch over our shoulder. The pouch is good to go!

Yeah, for that purpose, what are the odds you will actually need EIGHT mags?
More than likely that's how I'll load them up too.
Spoiler alert: It seems only one steel AK47 mag will fit in each of the double mag pouches.
You MAY be able to force two in, but I didn't want to tear anything, and if they are in there that snug, it's going to be a chore to get them OUT.

4 mag pouch...
Loaded with assorted mags - flap tucked behind mags.
There's a strip of Velcro along the back which allows you to neatly and securely fold the flap down to keep it out of the way if you want the mags to be accessible without needing to pull the flap off.

Re: Review: Midway 4 and 8 Magazine Pouches for AR15/AK47
4 mag pouch with some other mags I wanted to check for fit.
Left to right:
(first pouch empty)
Two (could fit three) 17 rd S&W 59/5900 Series 9mm mags (for Camp 9 Carbine)
Two 32 rd Metalform 9mm AR15 mags
and lastly, two 20 rd 9mm AR mags
The 20 rd mags fall down inside too far, but that could be remedied as simply as folding up a paper towel and placing it in the bottom of the pouch.

Again, the 20 rd 9mm AR15 mags are too short and would need something placed in the bottom of the pouch to prevent them from dropping in too far.

You can fit in a different number of mags depending on how you orient them in the pouch.

Oh crap! GREAT price for the Multicam!
I picked each of them up for $8 each and then 8 mag sold out in Multicam then the price of the 4 mag Multicam dropped to $6.80 and now $4.91.
Midway prices jump all over the place so you just have to watch if it's an item you want.
Just 2 weeks ago, the black 4 mag unit was on "clearance" for $4 and change! (then they went right back to regular price and the on sale again - but priced much higher. It's crazy.
Camo patterns though seem to run a course, and once on clearance, they typically don't come back.
I hope you remembered the trick to reduce shipping cost!
I forgot to mention that here. I'll post it up in a minute...

Re: Review: Midway 4 and 8 Magazine Pouches for AR15/AK47
EDIT: I've been told that this trick no longer works to the extent that it did at the time I posted it.:(
Regarding MidwayUSA and getting your shipping price reduced, here's a copy/paste of what I posted in the deals thread...
Midway USA REDUCED SHIPPING "code" Semi-secret.
I had seen this mentioned somewhere before but forgot about it.
I was browsing gun cases and found a smoking hot deal that even I could afford at $16.
Problem is the shipping was $13. Fuck it - that's too much. "I wonder if there are any current codes???"
I found this and tried it. It's a link to thousands of items that, when added to your cart, reduce the shipping cost SIGNIFICANTLY.
Even adding a piddly little $3 item will work.
I found an item for $10 that I could actually use (no sense buying needlessly just to reduce shipping) and
my shipping went from $13.50 down to $2.60!!!
Check it out!
Here is the DIRECT MIDWAY LINK to items that will reduce your shipping total.
It's been found that the shipping total fluctuates depending on the "free shipping item" that you add to your cart, so pick a few cheap items you could use, and plug in each to see how it affects the shipping total.

I used this method, when this the other Midway thread first started, to pick up 3 of the cases mentioned in the OP. The pen refill I got for less than a dollar is still sitting on the ledge of my china cabinet in my dining room...

Re: Review: Midway 4 and 8 Magazine Pouches for AR15/AK47
I discovered that my photos were not appearing in this thread, so I went in and updated it, replacing the images.
Keep an eye out for them to go on sale, as Midway changes their prices more than I change underwear!
Hope this is of some help.

The biggest problem I see with those shoulder bags is finding shoes to match them.

Re: Review: Midway 4 and 8 Magazine Pouches for AR15/AK47
I had to rethink how I was going to load up some mags/pouches now that I have some new guns, and after messing around with what I have on hand, I think I have it figured out so that I don't need to buy any more pouches right now.
I've chosen to put surplus AK47 mags in the 4 mag pouch. They fit and are easier to remove from that pouch.
7.62x39 AR15 mags fit well in the 8 mag pouch. Both 28 & 30 rounders fit thanks to the modular nature of the flaps - they can be adjusted for mag length because they are attached inside with velcro.
8 mags fit, but it gets bulky and heavy, so I'll only be putting 4 in - possibly just 3 and using the other pouch for something else. (ear plugs, light gloves, a flashlight, a box of ammo? Not sure)
I'm going to get a patch to put on the outside of the 4 mag/AK mag pouch so it's instantly identified as being for the AK vs the AR.
I have several of the USGI 8 mag pouches in ACU digital camo (not seen in this thread) that I'll use for 5.56 mags, so there won't be any confusion between x39 and 556.

Re: Review: Midway 4 and 8 Magazine Pouches for AR15/AK47
Does anyone know of a similar (throw over shoulder) type of mag pouch for PISTOL mags?
I saw some on Amazon that hold 6 mags - seems excessive. 3 or 4 would be preferable.
Maybe there are other types I'm unaware of. Feel free to make suggestions.
I'm more of a rifle guy, so I don't pay attention to a lot of handgun accessories.
I just want to have a few extra mags on hand - near my house gun - that I can grab in an emergency that can be carried on a moment's notice - no time to feed through a belt, or otherwise attach to something - just grab and go.

Re: Review: Midway 4 and 8 Magazine Pouches for AR15/AK47
I have a double mag holder with a paddle that slips in the belt in a second. You can get two Glock 33 round mags in it but I prefer two G17 mags myself. I’ve never seen a sling type pouch with less then 4 mag holsters in it. I had one made by UW gear for Glock 33 round mags a few years back but it wasn’t cheap and took about 5 months to get. The quality is excellent though.
You can look for a leather surplus one for MG stick mags. I also have one of those I got off eBay for a reasonable amount. You have to make a few minor mods for it to take stick mags, won’t work with standard sized pistol mags.

Re: Review: Midway 4 and 8 Magazine Pouches for AR15/AK47
Found this made by Condor who typically offers good quality.
Holds 3
You could probably rig a strap up pretty easily.

Amazon has it too with more color options and free shipping.

Yeah, I doubt there's much demand for an item I'm describing. Probably better to learn how to sew and make something myself.
I wear elastic waistband polyester running shorts 95% of the time once the temps reach 70, so something that goes on my waist is a no-go.
I do have a Remington branded fanny pack that I got for like five bucks on clearance a few years back. It has a long enough strap that it can be used over the shoulder/across the way I am thinking. I could probably use that if I need to.

Hey, while digging for that sling (still hiding somewhere), I found a cheapo, nylon triple-mag pouch someone gave me years ago!!!
I also have a few random, unused, black shoulder straps from laptop bags, tactical crap, etc and I'm just going to fashion Paracord loops to go through the two outer tabs used to connect to molle gear, and connect the snap hooks of the shoulder strap to the loops.
Free and easy! Thanks for the idea.

Re: Review: Midway 4 and 8 Magazine Pouches for AR15/AK47
Additionally, I found this on Amazon - perfect size for what I want, plus it has additional storage.
I may get this for 9mm SMG mags for my AR15 and for my Camp 9 carbine.
Again, easy enough to add a shoulder strap!
I really like this one. In the Midway mag pouches I put 1 AR/AK mag in three pouches, and plan to put a flashlight and knife in the fourth.

It’s funny how we collect so much stuff and forget about what we actually have.
The paracord is a good idea, most likely will never have to worry about it tearing or wearing out. I

I have two of his multi-mag pouch bags. Agreed....a little pricey....but excellent quality. I think one was the grab & go....just throw it over your shoulder. The other one wad a combo chest rig that could be converted to throw over your shoulder. I don't see that one listed on his site any more.

Re: Review: Midway 4 and 8 Magazine Pouches for AR15/AK47
I'm getting there.
My goal is to have some sort of "go bag" or slingable mag pouch for any and all guns that could fill a self defense role.
I wanted something that could hold the 17/20 rd mags for my Camp 9 carbine.
I found two individual mag pouches in my box of junk that I got a few years ago for a buck or less each and never found a use for.
I rooted around and discovered a shoulder strap from a laptop bag that was not being used.
By drilling a few holes in the plastic MOLLE (?) attachments on the back, I was able to bind the two pouches together "back to back" using some leftover paracord.
It doesn't look pretty, but it does all I need it to do.
Total cost - well under $5
