Rebuild Field and Stream 24 Gun Safe
I picked up a Field and Stream Pro Series 24 Gun Safe this past weekend for $80 and an hours ride each way into NJ and back. Once you see the pictures you'll know it was so cheap. The lock has been broken off and the locking mechanism was all bent up. It also looks like the fireproofing was removed as well. The seller said it belonged to he brother, who had passed away, and they needed to get into it to retrieve his things.
I'm replacing the lock, repairing the locking mechanism, and repairing the damage on the front of the safe with a small piece of plate. I'll either use some construction adhesive to attach the plate or get my cousin to weld it on for me. I'm opting for the adhesive method since it's mainly a cosmetic fix.
I may or may not replace the fireproofing with some fire rated sheetrock, they jury is still out on that. I do plan on replacing the internal carpeting and shelving by framing it out and building up from there.
Has anyone had any similar projects? If so, please comment with any advice.

Re: Rebuild Field and Stream 24 Gun Safe
In case anyone ever runs into the same situation. I found some answers in a reloading group on facebook. My work so far is getting the fireproofing in and covering it with some unbound carpet. The lock comes in today. I know it's not going to be close to what it was brand new, but it will keep Johnny Crackhead out. A link to the photo album.

If you can't weld the plate see if someone near you has panel bonding adhesive (used to glue car panels together) or steel epoxy would be better than construction adhesive.

I covered the two holes up front with a couple of bolts and steel epoxy, it came out pretty good. Now I know what to do with all those swag stickers you get when you order parts or ammo. I'll use those to cover the repairs instead of finding matching paint.

It's all done, and I'm pretty happy with how it turned out. Before and after photos. Please note, those are all of my airsoft guns in there. Attachment 162935Attachment 162936Attachment 162937Attachment 162938Attachment 162939
