Coronavirus Reloading Thread
With all the ample time currently available and the uncertainty of possible future events, I thought it wise to add to the "Ready? Set? GO!" 5.56 x 45 inventory. So today I reloaded 500 rnds on a Dillon 550B - it took about 3 hours (yeah, I know I'm slower than molasses at times).
Here's the load data:
Powder: 23.6 gns Ramshot TAC
Primer : Rem No. 71/2 Small Rifle Bench Rest Primers
Bullet : Sierra 77 gr HPBT w/ Cannelure
Brass : Remington
OAL : 2.254"
Crimp : .248"
Here's the cartridge data:
Avg Velocity: 2627 fps (14.7" barrel)
Std. Dev. : 26.7
These were reloaded specifically for my LWRC M6IC-SPR 5.56mm rifle which can handle the higher pressure of these rounds and they are not suitable for a generic .223 rifle. Be sure to consult several reloading manuals for the correct load for YOUR rifle.
By the way, this missus' routinely takes these rounds out for a 700 yd. "walk" with her LMT.
If you've been working at your reloading press during this self-quarrantine, feel free to post your story.

Re: Coronavirus Reloading Thread
I'm working on 300 Blackout right now. 125g Hornady SST with 17.0g IMR 4227.
Going to run out of prepped brass, so next up will be brass prep.
At the same time, I have 9mm set up on the progressive, so will be continuing that.
One project I need to get to is some prepped 7.5 swiss GP 11 brass and 45 ACP brass. Then I've got some 32 ACP and 7.62 NATO to do.
-
Re: Coronavirus Reloading Thread
I don't have time to not reload.

Re: Coronavirus Reloading Thread
Business in high swing here. Casted 25k 125 9mm and 15k 147gr 9mm. Sold 22k 9mm 125 just today. Have to make more tomorrow.
Keep pulling the handle guys.

Re: Coronavirus Reloading Thread
I can do some brass prep. My brother picked up the powder scale and dispenser to do some at his house. Can also do some casting.

If I can do it, you can too.
Tons of videos on Youtube, start watching those. Get a reloading manual, read it. Most of the manuals have how to articles, but you will probably learn more from Youtube. Lee has probably the best directions for their dies, so start simple with something like 9mm or 45 ACP. If you don't understand something after that, ask, plenty of people will help.

Unfortunately, supplies are now as scarce as ammo, or as crazily priced.

Well, aren't *you* just a little overachiever today.
Keep up the good work, brother.

Re: Coronavirus Reloading Thread
Finally got primers, powder, and bullets ordered. I know I'm way late, but at least they are ordered.

Thanks but underachieved. One machine went down and I lost 10k production for the day. But back to work today and tomorrow full swing.
Should have pictures of a new Duracoat job sometime this week also. If I catch up on bullets.

Go online as Midway and Cabelas sent out my recent orders quickly enough.

Re: Coronavirus Reloading Thread
I have mostly been casting and powder coating 9mm,40,44 and 45.
I am down to about 2500 small pistol primers. I may need to hook up tomorrow. Not sure how the virus thing is going to affect gun shops.
-
Re: Coronavirus Reloading Thread
Primers are kinda scarce. Some shops still have them though. I went to order 100k from my supplier last week and they were out. But I'm on top of the first resupply back order.

I was just thinking "I wonder if reloaders are getting by this panic buying mess as well". Are you having to pay more for the supplies too or is it just the availability that's an issue?
-
Re: Coronavirus Reloading Thread
Right now just availability. Inventory was low everywhere from a 3 year lull. Then boom, panic hit and first supply run was gone in an instant. Now just waiting on the first round of resupply from the manufactures.

Kramer,
What is your load Data on the 9mm subs?
-
Re: Coronavirus Reloading Thread
I've been trying to work through my 147gr 9mm, still have a couple thousand left.
Once I finish up those I'll work on 230gr .45...

Just generically a 9mm with a 147 grain bullet will be a great sub with 3.2 grains of Bullseye, Titegroup, or Sport Pistol. These will all fly around 900 FPS. Its our most common competition load.

Re: Coronavirus Reloading Thread
Today I am swaging 300 Blackout brass. It's leftover stuff from Palmetto State converted 5.56 brass from about five years ago and still has the primer crimp. First I am headed out the door to shoot a few rounds.
-
Re: Coronavirus Reloading Thread
Cleaned a pile of brass. Also made a new batch of .357 mag 158g hard cast hollow point gas check bullets over a strong dose of 2400. Very nice in the S&W revolvers as well as the Henry.

That's good to now. Just put in an order for .45 ACP from ya. Next time I'm in town, (Dad lives in Coraopolis) I'll have to check out your place of Business and we can talk Dan Wesson.

Re: Coronavirus Reloading Thread
6.5 Creedmoor
Browning Hells Canyon Speed
Sierra 130 grain GameChanger
Federal 210 primers
43 grains of Reloder 16
Speeds 2772, 2777, 2777, 2795, 2772.
I’m going to kick it up another 1/2 grain, look for 2800 FPS.

Re: Coronavirus Reloading Thread
6 creed
starline brass
110gr smk's
CCI primer
40.2gr 4350
Averaging 3010fps with a SD of 7
Have about 150 prepped/primed pieces of brass left and probably will load up another 100 this week.
-
Re: Coronavirus Reloading Thread
Loaded a bunch over the last week.
~1500 12ga target loads to bust clays
Remington Hulls
Win Primers
Clay Dot powder
7/8oz reclaimed shot
Also loaded up some (500x) 9mm as my new scorpion seems to be chewing through it faster than anticipated.
124gr plated RN
4.1gr win 231
CCI primer
I want to finish the brick of primers but then I'll move on to 6.5 CM and .308 as my supplies are getting low.
No worries for .223/.45/9/12ga

Its1ow, you liking the Starline brass? I bought 100 pieces for the 6.5. I also bought 124 grain hammer hunters and 117 grain sledge hammers. I should get a little more speed from both but haven’t had time to hit the range for some trigger time yet. I’m looking for 2900 for the hunters and 3k for the sledge hammers.

Love it, their cheap (500pc/$250) and I am at four firings with one annealing and so far have had maybe two pieces with split necks.

Kings Shooting Supplies in K of P used to give Reloading Classes especially for the Dillon Line of Products. I know they are getting ready to open their new in door range so they may no longer offer classes. If your interested I would check with Kings after this Chicom Virus starts to settle down.
