More testing of .308 Win.
In this as in the prior case the rifle is a 20" barreled Browning BLR.
This time the powder is Hodgdon's H380 a fine grained ball powder, chosen because it is/was available.
My testing didn't go well as you can see from the results attached. I spoke to Pact's customer service and they tell me that the problem is likely a weak 9 volt battery. The tech says performance suffers when the battery's voltage falls below 8.5.
These are very reduced loads. Accuracy was very good with the 43 & 43.5 gr. loads producing 5 shot groups in one ragged hole easily within 1 moa.
Data source was Sierra Edition 5. Once again though velocities were 200 fps or more below book.
Note the maximum load listed for this powder/bullet combination is 48.7 grains. So reaching that charge in 1/2 gr. increments shall take a couple more test sessions of 50 rounds each.
Re: More testing of .308 Win.
Tagging along because I'm going to be working up some .308 loads for my Ruger GSR using 168 grain HPBT Sierra Matchkings and Reloder 15. I'll probably have to get fresh batteries for my chrono.
Re: More testing of .308 Win.
It's nice that you are getting good accuracy with the 165 grain bullets. My Model 81 BLR doesn't like them at all.
