It is not sprint alone, ever service provider will comply with any ongoing investigation. That is a major suck with the technological society, can't fart without somebody tweeting about it...

Who was the very first of the telcos to fold to the government on illegal wiretaps. All telcos suck.

All the phones I've had, ( Verizon ) have the option of having the GPS location on all the time, or just for 911 calls. I always have mine set for 911 only.

Hey, if you have nothing to hide, why mind the intrusion?
If you don't like it you could always use a prepaid cell phone anonymously.
Change phones often.

I'm looking for a citation, but it's my understanding that all phones can have their location tracking (GPS or otherwise) activated remotely.
Something like this, for the GPS... (still looking).... http://news.cnet.com/2100-1029_3-6140191.html

Oh I already knew they could use it. I just didnt know how easily. Apparently they can look at anyone and everyone without reason. I find that extremely disturbing to say the least. The biggest mind boggler is this is just ONE of the major cell phone carriers! Now I wonder how often this happens with them all?
8 million in just a year? Add in the other networks and I wonder if we ALL havent been spied on repeatedly! I now feel we have ZERO privacy at all. I want to have the ability to watch the police in this way. Bet they wont like it then.

I'm sure that's the case. They probably don't want us to know about it though...
