Congressman introduces resolution to protect citizens who videotape cops

Sounds like a good law to me. Why should you face imprisonment for video taping anyone on a public street ?
New York? Democrat? What?
Mixed feelings: I don't think anyone should be even harassed for policing the police.
Pro: Expected privacy in a public place is a paradox, and therefore can't be expected.
Con: Federal laws over stepping state laws [the 14th doesn't apply here very well]
"Jeez officer, I was just videotaping the architecture of the buildings and this cop got in the way...."
LOL
First off, this is only a resolution not a law. It has no legal weight to it at all.
If he really wanted to change the law he would file a bill that would change the wire tapping laws specifically allowing the taping of police in public places.
All he's doing here is political grandstanding. Useless...
"Like a bill, a joint resolution must be approved, in identical form, by both the House and the Senate, and signed by the president. Like a bill, it has the force of law if approved."

He can't change individual state laws. By doing this as a resolution, it holds legal weight if/when a case is appealed to a federal court. The result is that the states would eventually change their laws accordingly to comply with the federal resolution.
This doesn't appear to be accurate to me, or at least there appear to be different types of resolutions.
Based on the text of the resolution I'm inclined to say that it has no legal force, given that it doesn't amend any portion of the US Code as you would see in usual legislation.
i dont like when im recorded by a dashboard cam, so too bad to anyone who complains about them being recorded when they want to talk to me...i wonder if the people who recorded this movie were ever prosecuted? http://vodpod.com/watch/2093527-the-...ang-in-america
