Montco LTCF, my experience
So, I go in today to get my LTCF, without the police check card as I had planned on (because it's a load of bullshit to make us do that when no other county asks for it and it's not in state law). The older guy behind the counter starts the process being very cordial, until he sees that I didn't fill out the dumb card. "Sir, come back when this is filled out." I replied with "Your website says I don't have to, that you can fill it out." Wordlessly, he walks away to photocopy my driver's license. When he comes back, the cordial nature is clearly gone, replaced by empowered guy with a badge. "We have the right to make you wait 45 business days since you didn't have this filled out. If you come back with it filled out, you can get it within ten days." This pissed me off more, because in Berks, when I last held a LTCF, it was in and out in 10 minutes WITH the license. I replied with "No, I'm OK with you guys doing that." His response "Well, Lower Merion doesn't verify addresses over the phone, so I'm going to have to pull a deputy off the line and go run this errand for you" with undertones of "Fuck you, you worthless shit" in his voice. I replied with "yeah, you guys can do that." He said, "see you in 45 days" and I left.
My only concern is now being denied on basis of "character" for not putting up with official oppression. I'm sure he felt I was being very disrespectful in not caving instantly. I never cussed or raised my voice, merely resisted peacefully. Oh well...
As for the wait, I'm mostly fine by it. It's been two years since my old LTCF expired and I need to purchase a better carry gun anyways. It'll probably take me that long or more to save for something else anyways as the market has me focused on ammo. The only thing that pisses me off is that they'll probably have it done within a week and wait to May (or later) to call, just to "prove a point" aka official oppression.
Defying "the man" felt pretty good, all in all. I strongly encourage everyone in Montco to make the Sheriff do the investigation themselves. Maybe they'll get sick of running errands for a worthless check card and remove it from their requirements.
Re: Montco LTCF, my experience
You can legally open carry, if you desire, before you get your LTCF... except in Philly and not in/on a vehicle, and if we are not in a state of emergency.

Thats strange. in 2011, I went in with my app and local check card and I was in and out in 20 minutes. Of course this was before I knew the check card was technically illegal per the PA state constitution.
Re: Montco LTCF, my experience
good job man! was it the fat old guy or the fat young guy?
this is the 2nd or 3rd occurrence of us getting thru without the checkcard i've seen on here.
keep up the good work. i think they're getting the hint.
Re: Montco LTCF, my experience
He was old and portly, not that I'm one to judge. I'm probably heavier than he is.
I can't say that I've "gotten through" yet, as I don't have my LTCF in my hands, but at least it's a start.

It's a piece of crap that Montgomery county sheriff uses to check out LTCF applicants. They like you to take it to your local PD and have them fill it out on you.
If you don't, they apparently hold your license hostage for the full 45 days.
Re: Montco LTCF, my experience
The local PD also likes to charge around $20 to fill out said check card.
Piss on that. I'm not paying double for my LTCF.
It dawned on me earlier, the check card is a corrupt way for the local PD to make money off of gun owners directly. That's the deal, nothing more.
Re: Montco LTCF, my experience
Does the county require the card for renewals also?
Re: Montco LTCF, my experience
How do you know the old tart didn't just throw the card and your Ap in the trash???
