    Default HDCP woes...

I bought a blue-ray drive for my computer the other day only to learn that I cannot play any protected blue-ray discs due to HDCP.

This is news to me, so I start researching to see if my video card and monitor support HDCP. After a slightly tedious process, I learned that I am one for two (my monitor does not support HDCP). Next step, purchase a new monitor (did that yesterday). Now, it dawns on me... my video card only has DVI outputs.

Will the whole HDCP chain work over a dual-link DVI connection? My efforts to order a new monitor will be futile unless this will work over DVI.

    This HDCP crap is ridiculous...

I am a computer programmer and I cannot get a simple movie to play (sad).

    Hi Twister,

Your DVI connectors will work fine. I'm running two GeForce 8800 GTS cards SLI hooked up to a Dell 2707WFP over a DVI connection. DVI is part of the HDCP standard. Good luck.

If you have any questions give me a shout.

I have two ATI 3850's in crossfire hooked up to my Vizio 42" and my blu-rays play just fine. My cards came with an adapter from DVI to HDMI that you just attach to the back of the video card. You just need a card that is compliant.

I have a 9800GX2 plugged into my monitor via DVI and it works just fine. HDCP is not limited to an HDMI connection.

But yeah, the paranoia is stupid. Someone who knows what they are doing will not be stopped by HDCP...
