After-market hand gun mags question.
I see several after-market hand gun mags addvertised well below factory mag cost. Does any one have any does and donts, feedback, or expeirence(good or bad) with these companies. Are there any I should stay away from?

Re: After-market hand gun mags question.
They are generally less reliable than factory magazines and as the magazine is the weakest link in an auto-loading pistol, this is not the place to economize.
Using them for range and practice sessions is one thing but I would never use after market magazines for home protection or OC / CC.

Re: After-market hand gun mags question.
There are some good aftermarket magazines (McCormick, Tripp, Wilson, etc) but to make a general statement most aftermarket (read "Cheap") are just junk.

Re: After-market hand gun mags question.
The only major aftermarket brand (outside of 1911 mag manufacturers) that I have found makes very good stuff is Mec Gar. They make many of Sig's mags for the factory, and they also make very good mags for some other guns. If you find a Mec Gar mag for your gun, you can be fairly certain it will be of good quality.

Re: After-market hand gun mags question.
Second MecGar.
they make the fctory mags for a lot of OEM guns, like: Sig, Beretta, S&W, Keltec, etc etc, and they are always flawless in operation.
you will NOT go wrong with mecGar, and even tho they make them for the various makers, Mecgar branded mags are a little cheaper when they are marked MecGar instead of "Beretta"
skip USA Mags always, and "no name" mags, its not worth it in the long run."Oderint Dum Metuant" - BMFH

Re: After-market hand gun mags question.
We have had no luck with USA or Eagle mags. All of the Mec Gar have been super(1911 .38super, .45acp and 9mm) and fool proof.

Re: After-market hand gun mags question.
I absolutely agree with that.
I bought some USA Magazine brand mags years ago for my SW459 and Marlin Camp 9(used same mags). They were pure jam-o-matics with those things. HP and ball ammo would bind up in the mag about 1/3 of the way down the stack.
