new bear season
I read the Grice gun flier, and they said you can hunt bear with a muzzleloader in early inline season for deer in October. I looked it up, and it is true. Naturally you need a muzzy license and bear tag. New stuff.

Re: new bear season
Yes , this was mentioned as a direction they were taking this a while back.
I was thinking they MAY go as far to combine bear with a part of the deer rifle season.

Re: new bear season
This October will be an excellent opportunity to take a bear in PA. Bears forage this time of year close to 18 hours a day. I went as far as putting a new Leupold scope on my inline and am planning on taking the week off from work in lieu of going during the regular bear season. Many folks fear a slaughter, but I do not. I also hunt in NY. Bear comes into season October 1st during archery season and continues through a three week rifle season that starts in November all the way through a week long late season muzzleloader season. The property that I hunt in NY is a heavily populated bear area and while I have seen a few and lost a few trail cameras to them, I only know of one being shot on our property.

Re: new bear season
The only thing I don't like about it, for purely selfish reasons, is there may be a lot of people whacking the brush during what is otherwise a peaceful time to hunt deer.

Re: new bear season
I generally take the flintlock in the woods that week, but I don't like to shoot anything when it is warm/buggy. So using a tag that week has a lot to do with heat for me. Still good to get out and do some recon on buck season.
They run limited bear in deer season here in 4D for sometime. I am not an archery hunter, but I wish those guys would get more bear days. My opinion let archery have a dual season. Doubt a zillion bear will be flattened by bows, so let those guys have some anticipation.
