Default Local places to get gun coatings?

I live in the Lehigh Valley and Ive just started to really enjoy firearms coating. Ive been using KG Gun Kote with some kick ass results. The downside I'm seeing to these coatings is the shipping, especially for the 4 oz cans, the shipping is as much as the coating itself! Does anyone know of local places that sell this stuff or something similar?

I use Black Oxide with great success. As long as you prep your metal surfaces correctly you can use the amount mixed over and over again for plastic I guess you are stuck with Dura or Gunkote. Never seen it sold locally since none of the gun shops around me cater to gunsmithing or restoring.

The trouble with purchasing online is that none of these products can be shipped via USPS so you are stuck paying UPS or Fedx prices. For one 40z can of Duracote it's $13.00 to ship. So you are way better off buying in bulk or waiting for this site, Brownells, Midway or Sportsmans guide to have a sale or free shipping weekend.

Yea thats the downer, I'm not doing this for profit just a hobby for mine/my wifes guns. Buying in bulk is def not an option. I've used duracoat before but I'm not fond of it, which is why I've moved on to gunkote (but same thing $12 can of coating $12 shipping).

I am in the same boat, no one I know of stocks the stuff around here.

I am with Hodgie, wait until you get a coupon or Midway/Brownells has a shipping deal.

On a positive note, I am a big fan of KG's stuff. I did a "temporary" finish on my first FAL build over 10 years ago, it still looks great and the finish is tough and holding up well. I am going to parkerize it one day, but so far no need.

Yea I got bit hard by the car bug years ago, started as a hobby until I started a full out drag car build. I certainly have no intentions of attempting to be a professional firearms refinisher.

Yea I did one of my 1911s in gunkote 3 years ago and it still looks awesome. Im going to redo it simply because I want a change. Thats why I love about this stuff, $12 (before shipping) and you can have a "new" gun. Neither midway or brownells carry KG products, as I stated I'm not a duracoat fan...and cerakote is a bit on the pricey side.

What about cabela's, I'd think they would be the only place if the region that would stock such a specialty item.

Cabelas does not sell refinishing items.

You will need to purchase online.

I've used KG Gunkote for years. I was not happy with their recommendation. It ended up costing me $1,000.00 as they told me the polymer on my Sako TRG stock would take the heat. I ended up ruining my stock and KG never replied to my emails or phone calls.

    Cerakote from now on.

Buy larger amounts to offset shipping costs.
