Surface rust on barrel
I just aquired a Crosman Storm XT .177 pellet gun. It has been in a storage unit for awhile and has some surface rust on the metal parts. What can I use to safely remove the rust without harming the gun? Thanks for the help !

0000 steel wool and gun oil. The super fine wool won't damage bluing (if the air rifle is indeed blued) and it will remove the rust.
Wipe down with oil and move the rifle to a better environment. This is the reason I inspect/clean everything in my safe every 6 months or so whether I have shot it or not."Disperse you Rebels! Damn you! Throw down your Arms and Disperse!" British Major Pitcairn at Lexington April 19, 1775

Re: Surface rust on barrel
Is it blued or stainless? It it's stainless I'd recommend getting some Mother's mag/aluminum polish and some green 3M pads.

Re: Surface rust on barrel
It is "blued", if it really is done on a gun at that price point. I will give the 0000 steel wooland gun oil a shot. That is also why all my handguns are stainless !
Thanks

Re: Surface rust on barrel
After cleaning - get some paste wax (minwax, ect) and some cheesecloth and gently rub the paste wax into the barrel to protect the finish.
