Re: .22 Pistol for Home Protection!
If you can sneak up behind the BG and put one behind his ear .....
Unless you can get excellent shot placement I'm afraid you're just gonna piss someone off.
A .410 shotgun (or larger) with #4 shot (or larger) would be a better choice.“When a man cannot chose, he ceases to be a man.”

While .22lr would not be my choice, a few properly placed shots with it would be lots better than blowing holes in your drywall with a larger caliber that misses.
One shot from a handgun rarely will drop an intruder, so if .22lr is the largest caliber that you can handle to put follow-up shots on target, it is the best caliber for you.

Well, considering unloading a full magazine of CCI mini mags COM will probably persuade an intruder from sticking around very long.

Re: .22 Pistol for Home Protection!
A .22 can stop, slow down, scare away an intruder. It has negligible recoil. But I do not think it is ideal for home defense.
Hopefully an invader won't stick around after seeing a gun/or a shot is fired. In that case a .22 is fine.
If you do have to shoot, I think most bad guys would take off after getting hit even once by a .22. Most people have a self preservation instinct and do not want to allow harm to come to them. In this case a .22 is fine.
But if you get a home invader/invaders who are caught up in the moment or on drugs, or some other extreme situation, seeing a gun may not scare them away. Being shot by a .22 or many .22's may not be enough to deter them. While a .22 can stop a person, it lacks the stopping power of larger calibers.
So it basically comes down to your personal comfort level. My comfort level says .22 is to iffy if a criminal is trying to harm me or my family and 9mm is the smallest I would want in a home defense situation. But honestly, you can say "why only 9mm".Last edited by internet troll; March 24th, 2013 at 11:25 AM.

Re: .22 Pistol for Home Protection!
Nothing wrong with it at all, if its all you got then fine. I have many pistols but I often carry a 22 pistol, 10+1 loaded up with HV stingers, I can shoot my Glock 27 40 just fine, but I can also put all 11 rounds in the center circle of a IDPA target in about 4 seconds at 25 feet, time and time again! I would love to see any human survive that!!! I feel safe when I carry mine and no body can change my mind on that...
Why did you start this thread and why do you ask? You werent very specific????

Lots of people write things like the above, and it seems to make sense. The problem comes when you may only get off a few shots and there are more than one attacker. It is more prudent to plan for the worst and hope for the best than the opposite.
I would use a 22LR if that was all I had access to. However, I have access to more and plan to use the most effective tool for such a task if the need arises.Join the groups protecting your rights from the fools trying to take them from you!

A pellet gun is better than nothing too.
Just sayin'
Do you have a fire extinguisher in your house, or a tall glass of water?
I mean, a tall glass of water is better than nothing, and will put out a fire too - right?Western PA PAFOA GROUP SHOOT May 17th @ PMSC - ALL WELCOME!!! (LINK)
