    Default IO inc Ak-47c.

So I took it to the range today. First mag had 4 failure to cycles. Like Ive read of people complaining that the bolt sticks back. I pulled it back and let it go and it loaded each time. Second mag only had 1 ftf. Then it was over. Never had another failure.
I shot it at 50 yards and it was low, cranked the site down 1 turn. fired at 100 and was still low. cranked it 2 more complete turns and that's all. It shoots a little to the right, but I just compensated as I didn't have anything with me to drift the front sight.
My eyes aren't what they used to be and I'm thinking this would be more accurate for me with another sighting option...either a red dot, or some sort of peep sight.
Anyhow I'm pleased with the operation, accuracy and fun factor of this gun. If I had used a rest I'm guessing I could make 3 inch groups at 100 yards.

circled rounds are the first group before adjusting sights. I was firing about a round a second standing unsupported.

Aside from the comical zombie headshot accuracy, your'e still doing well with minute of terr accuracy using the hopeless battlesights of an AK. You did good.

Thanks, as I was laying in bed last night I was thinking thats the most fun Ive had at the range in a long time. After I was all sighted in and happy with the operation I was randomly firing groups into all three targets (2 at 100 yards, and 1 at 50) pretty rapidly. I had 3 of 5 headshots at the 50 yard target. Im really happy that only 1 round missed the silouettes entirely.
Next time I go Ill take some sandbags and set myself up and see what kind of groups I can make. Im not used to shooting at anything other then round targets since my military time 20 years ago. Im thinking the gun is more accurate then the sights on it.

As I dont know too much about AKs in general, how do I know which ultimak to order for my gun? Their website shows there are 2 full sized models for 1970 type and mak90 type I think....How do I know what mine is based on? is ther something I can measure? If noone knows Ill email ultimak and Io. Just curious.
Also this thing has the most horrible sling ever. anyone have a good recommendation for a sling? If it matters I prefer to carry muzzle down...and Im a lefty.

You want the normal one. They have one for M70 .. maybe a Mak90 too. You don't want either. Either M1-B or M2-B will work

AK sights are not that bad, and they are far more rapid than many of the "obscure the shit out of your vision" type of sights found on other firearms.

No they aren't built for super accuracy... but I can get on them quicker than most peep type sights. And especially more than diopter type. I hate those. I might as well be looking through a pin hole at the world. FOV becomes a speck on those. Which infuriates me because I can't see anything around me.

So yeah. I'm the goof ball that likes AK sights. lol!

To the OP, that isn't bad shooting for a first trip out at 100/50. If you enjoy as much as you seem to have, you will improve the more you take it out. There is still a little room for more but still good shooting for freehand at 100 with an AK!

Thanks, did you ever play Everquest? Your nickname seems familiar.
As far as the sights go Im thinking a microdot on a ultimak. By the time I was done with those open sights my eye was watering and a little strained. I have a real hard time focusing on rear, front and target. I wouldnt mind trying something like a Big Dot sight set, but at the price they are I dont want to buy it and not like it. I was thinking if only the rear had a little white U like on a glock or something I would be able to focus better.
I feel pretty good about my accuracy for what it was with a new gun, esp watching for ftfs, wasnt till the middle of the 4th mag that I wasnt worried about them anymore.
Hoping to find a good deal on some Ammo so I can get more comfortable with it. Its the funnest gun I own ATM.
Who knows, maybe Ill wait. I need a new carry pistol and the lgs has pf9s on sale.

Nope never have. It gets used a lot though. Asmodeus is a demon or satan-like persona, prince of hell, associated with the seven deadly sins (lust) bangs Lilith, general all around nice guy etc. I've used this tag for 20 years so... it grew on me.

Paint the sights! I do my front post white, and just the tops of the side leafs on the rear red. Makes for a quick contrast and no more trouble distinguishing black on black on black on a teeny tiny target far, far away.

I use high temperature ceramics for engine paint. They are solvent proof and all you have to do is spray some on a piece of cardboard and use a needle or snipped off end of a Qtip to apply it. That and a can will do like 1000 sets of sights. lol!
