Default Ordering Ammo Online, what I need to know.

So I am on the verge of buying my first pistol and I need to find a place that sells ammo in bulk cheaply, buying online seems to be the best way. However I am new to the process and I was just wondering whats involved, getting setup and whatever else is required? Another concern when it comes to shipping ammo do they all ship to your door or do some require you to pick up at an FFL dealer? I am only interested with vendors that ship to your door so I can cut out the FFL dealer and save some money. The other concern was the cost of shipping, I know ammoman.com offers free shipping but what about the rest? Finally if you guys can suggest a few reputable online dealers I would be grateful.

I have bought thousands of rounds of ammo from every fair priced internet vendor you can think of. Theres no restrictions or anything you need to know. No signature required and ships to your door. Shipping depends on what your buying. 900 rounds of 8mm (almost size of 30-06 bullets) will cost 40 bucks to PA. Reason why i didnt purchase from them. Ammo in bulk is always better at ammoman where you get free shipping. Just figure about 1 dollar a pound or a tad under. Minimum charge of 10 bucks no matter how much you buy. the-armory.com has great prices. cheaperthandirt.com is the ultimate source for steel case ammo. ammoman.com. i dont know whats out there now becuase i havent bought in a few months. i just got into reloading and all i do in my free time is reload now

Great, thanks Shortthrow. Do you know if ammoman is the only ammo supplier that offers free shipping? I am probably going to order from them anyway buy sometimes I noticed they run out of certain ammunition and I wanted a few other places I could fall back on. Plus of course I would like to make sure they have the best deals at the moment. The $1/lb seems like it can add up in time. Down the road I am probably going to be buying 5.56x45 and 7.62x39 by the 1k which must be heavy.

I am going to give you some points because this information has been very valuable to me.

Right now just 9mm for an M&P 9 I am looking to buy. In time though I will be interested in buying other calibers.

thanks man. ammoman is the only vendor i know of in existence that gives free shipping. If your not anal about shooting steel case ammo, cheaper than dirt sells tulammo 9mm for 8.69 a box of 50. 300 rounds shipped for 50 something and shipping is 13 something. I did a print screen (below). On that website, you can ad crap to your cart, recalculate quantity and type in zip to get shipping cost. If you have a walmart nearby, I think they sell steel case tulammo 9mm for same price minus shiupping of course. Steel case ammo will not harm your pistol, the only difference is that the steel doesnt not form your barrel when fired like brass and you get a little blowby of soot and your gun gets a little dirty after a little shooting. But hey, if you clean your gun regularly, whats the difference.

For qty's under 1k, Wal-Mart has 100 rd WWB at $22.97. I was told today that they started to carry the 250 rd Rem. UMC packs but don't know the price yet. I'll check tomorrow.

I order most of my ammo from AIM Surplus, 9 out of 10 times. Prices are almost always the lowest. Shipping is very reasonable. Free shipping just means that the sellers build it into the price.

Pretty much every seller wants proof that you are 21. AIM's policy is here: http://www.aimsurplus.com/blog/buy-ammo, but pretty much the only thing they can enforce is proof of age.

Ammoengine.com is an ammo price watch site, but it doesn't do a complete job. For example, AIM has 45ACP for $17/box, but it's not listed on there. I also buy from Natchetz (great price on CCI mini-mag) and Widener's in the past.

I could mostly agree with that but with ammoman, its not the case when i was buying cases of 8mm mauser ammo. 2 months ago, 900 rounds of yugoslavian sealed ammo was 199 shipped. the cheapest vendor i could find anywhere that had it was cheaperthandirt and they wanted 40 bucks on top of that to ship it. it weighed 60 pounds. AIM is good too

Once in a very long while, you'll get that from ammoman. I bet you if AIM had it, it would've been cheaper. CTD isn't so cheap, ever, for me.

Every single make/caliber I looked at that I needed that both ammoman and AIM have, AIM beats the price with shipping. Here's a typical one: http://www.aimsurplus.com/product.as...Box&groupid=46 . $199/1000 + $20 shipping. Same exact ammo, $239/1000 with free shipping: http://www.ammoman.com/webstore_9mm.htm . With ammoman, you have to buy in bulk, so if you shoot several different calibers and just wanted a few boxes of each caliber, you can't do that there.

I haven't ordered ammo from AIM in a long time, but they had pretty fair shipping rates as I recall.
If you call them, they have very pleasant customer service people who will be happy to answer any questions you may have.
Fax them a copy of your driver's license and you are good to go.
