New hunter options
My son is 11 and of average stature. He will be needing a hunting setup for this fall / next year. It is clear he will need a youth sized rifle /shotgun. I would like your opinions on the Rossi Trifecta (.243win, .410 , and .22LR for $270) versus the Rossi Double Play (20 gauge , .22LR for $99). Will the 20 gauge with rifled slugs recoil like a mule in such a little gun?
Also...any idea where I might find a youth stock to put on my Mossberg 500 20 gauge? This could be an option for him as well, since I have a rifled barrel for it.
Thanks to all.

Re: New hunter options
I would look at Hogue's 12" LOP stocks. I am not sure if they make one for a M 500. I know they make them for a Rem 870, so i do not see why they wouldn't make one for the M 500.
Speedfeed also makes a 13" LOP stock if you can not find the Hogue 12" LOP stock. Speedfeed labels the 13" LOP stocks as the "Youth" models.

Re: New hunter options
My first shotgun was an H&R Topper 20 ga. very similar to the Rossi. With slugs it was like getting kicked by a mule. I think the Mossberg would be a better idea although I don't know where you could find the youth stock, maybe Midway or Brownell's. By the way I only used the Topper 1 year and then I acquired a youth model Winchester 1300 Ranger. This was all when I was 10 years old. Good luck!
