Slug Barrel for shotgun

I have two Remington shotguns that I don't use too much. I have an 870 Express that I use infrequently at best and an older 870 Wingmaster that was my Grandfathers that I never use. The Express chambers up to 3" Mags and the Wingmaster will only take 2 3/4's.

I want to convert one into a rifled slug gun with scope for deer hunting. I'm interested on hearing opinions on which one would make for a better slug gun.

I don't see the need to shoot a 3" slug. Plus if you are goose hunting, use all the shell you can get.

If you want a serious slug gun, these guys will convert an 870 for you. It's pricey though. http://www.tarhunt.com/tarhunt/

Check the gun auction sites. I found a rifled barrel for my Mossberg 535, with rifle sights - won it with a $75 bid. Remington barrels also show up occasionally. New from Factory rifled barrel can be had for around $200. Both options are less expensive than the "conversion" for $500. Keep looking until you find one, that's the ticket. You can have interchangeable barrels for either of your guns, that way you have the best of both worlds.

Hey do you think that I could throw in a 3" slug in a smooth bore New England Firearms and tag a whitetail. I've tagged 3 before with a .243. BTW this is my first post on the forums.

Use rifled slugs for a smooth bore. Try some out and see which one your gun likes best. Cylinder bore is preferred choke for slugs.

Sabots are designed for rifled barrels and likely will not shoot accurate at all in a smooth bore, and cost 4-5 times as much.
