Talking Jury duty next week in York- Can I bring a gun?- UPDATE- denied access!

Real question is- Does anybody here know if they have a locker for concealed weapons? Can I stash anything else in the locker (like cell phone)?

Thanks!

Well, they are legally required to have storage for your weapon.

Hopefully someone with direct experience with York will be along to tell of their experience with this.

Just outside the main front door, you will see 2 signs.

One says "No cell phones". Believe it. They make no accomodations for your cell phone.

The other says, "No Weapons". You may safely ignore that one. They DO have lockers, and the guys at the metal detectors have always been polite and professional with me.

From what I hear about York, you may want to bring more than one gun.

Heh-heh, I hear ya. However, I'm assuming this will be broad daylight, and this is not a bad area, lots of markets, lots of businesses. The areas to avoid are the residential areas, IMHO.

As bad as York is, it can still be considered safe at the front door to the Sheriff's Dept!

Besides, I hear the cops monitor the Courthouse on the emailz. :-p

The answer is YES.

Make sure you have your LTCF. They will not let you secure ANYTHING but weapon and spare ammo. So, no other weapons and no cell phones.

When you enter, inform deputy you have a concealed firearm and would like to secure it. I usually also hand them my LTCF at the same time.

They used to have s ign that said "Lockers are for Law Enforcement only" You can ignore that too. They know they have to let you lock it up, and I've never had a problem doing it.

No you can't put your phone in with your gun.

I realize that the OP is referring to a concealed pistol, but a LTCF is not required to make use of the "facilities for checking firearms or other dangerous weapons."

They are not acting in compliance with the law. See the lines I've highlighted in bold below.

Quote:
(e) Facilities for checking firearms or other dangerous weapons.--Each county shall make available at or within the building containing a court facility by July 1, 2002, lockers or similar facilities at no charge or cost for the temporary checking of firearms by persons carrying firearms under section 6106(b) or 6109 or for the checking of other dangerous weapons that are not otherwise prohibited by law. Any individual checking a firearm, dangerous weapon or an item deemed to be a dangerous weapon at a court facility must be issued a receipt. Notice of the location of the facility shall be posted as required under subsection (d).

My guess is this:

1. They only have lockers because they have to, they don't have to let you lock up your phone.

2. Since you take the key with you, they don't want to deal with someone who didn't turn their phone off and have it ringing the whole time.
