I'm still totally shocked you had a problem. I've been there twice in the last month or so and never had a second look from the deputies at the door. All I said was I needed a locker to secure a handgun and they walked me over to them, watched me place the gun in the locker and walked me back to the screening table.

I really hope you follow up with the Sherriff and post up what he has to say. I'll be waiting to hear about it...

Update with good news-

I called the Sheriff's office on Monday and explained the situation and voiced my concerns. I spoke to a very helpful and professional assistant chief who did not jump to any conclusions and asked for a day to so to investigate and figure out what happened.

I got calls today from both the assistant chief and the Sheriff. Both basically stated that there had been a breakdown around one individual, that their actions were in error and totally apologized. In addition, they have taken steps to coach the individual/retrain their staff on the issue and issued memos re-iterating the statute and their commitment to following it. That's good enough for me.

They were both straight up, very professional, accountable, and sympathetic individuals. I'm glad I got to speak with them. I'm confident that this was a "one off" incident and that it is unlikely to happen again. I'm glad we have men like them as leaders in our community compared to other places I have lived and seen.

Excellent!

The assistant chief and the Sheriff sound like very upstanding gentlemen

45Badger, I'm glad you followed up with this. Your phone call echoes all of my experiences with all members of the York County Sheriff's Dept. Always very pleasant and professional.

It's a shame you had any trouble at all, but I guess there are 'holdouts' to be found everywhere.

Thanks for posting your end results! I'm glad it worked out and ended the way it did.

Glad you followed through and updated us. I was totally socked you had a problem there as I've never been given a second look. Good to hear it seems to have been an isolated incident and if I have to go back to the courthouse I'll be much more at ease knowing that. Thanks.

That is good news.

But, Lt. Barney Fife should write you a letter of apology for his power tripping douche-baggery.

Sorry, I don't need to rub his nose in poop and swat him in the butt. I want him to change his future behavior and not carry a grudge into the next opportunity he has to interact with a gun owner.

No problems here. I intend to collect as many as I can. The one with the most red cards wins
