I wish I didn't have a commitment to my range that day. My FLA renewal is a hassle, so making the lateral move to UT is preferable.

Teaching Additional Firearms Related Courses/Rubber-Stamping
It’s come to our attention that there are instructors teaching Utah concealed firearms permit courses in
conjunction with other states concealed firearm permits and/or other firearms related courses. This practice
creates a lot of questions, confusion and uncertainty among concealed permit applicants. The Utah concealed
firearm permit classes you teach should be taught in its entirety. This prevents intermixing different
philosophies and variations from different state’s laws, etc.

Vaginia is NEVER shall issue...

Back to Utah.

You may combine, but they have to be taught separately. For instance, you may have a 4 hour (minimum) block designated for Utah. Complete the Utah course and then teach something else. That's why within the "four hour" period you may not take photos, prints, or do notary work.

You may also expand upon the curriculum
http://www.des.utah.gov/bci/document...ELINES_006.pdf by adding live fire, but the expansion must be submitted to the BCI and approved.

Also, everyone attending MUST be issued a copy of the new 48 page training guidelines (link above). I have the pdf printed double sided and spiral bound for the courses.

My FL renewal was actually pretty straightforward. You don't have to retake the training class, just the fingerprints (PA state police does them for free), notarized papers, photo, and check. The permit is now valid for 7 years.

And as far as the course goes the Utah portion is 4 1/2 hours and the Va. portion comes after that.

So, VA won't recognize the UT course for VA's training requirement?

No VA has its own course of training.

I'm confused

The following is from the VA State Police page; Nonresident Concealed Handgun Permits.

It seems to give many options for training and not a particular course, and even sounds like a PA Hunter's Safety Course would be OK.

Quote:
Documentation of Competence with a Handgun

The applicant shall demonstrate competence with a handgun by one of the following:

1. Completing a hunter education or hunter safety course approved by the Virginia Department of Game and Inland Fisheries or a similar agency of another state.
2. Completing any National Rifle Association firearms safety or training course.
3. Completing any firearms safety or training course or class available to the general public offered by a law-enforcement agency, junior college, college, or private or public institution or organization or firearms training school utilizing instructors certified by the National Rifle Association or the Department of Criminal Justice Services or a similar agency of another state.
4. Completing any law-enforcement firearms safety or training course or class offered for security guards, investigators, special deputies, or any division or subdivision of law enforcement or security enforcement.
5. Presenting evidence of equivalent experience with a firearm through participation in organized shooting competition approved by the Department of State Police or current military service or proof of an honorable discharge from any branch of the armed services.
6. Obtaining or previously having held a license to carry a firearm in this Commonwealth or a locality thereof, unless such license has been revoked for cause.
7. Completing any firearms training or safety course or class, including an electronic, video, or on-line course, conducted by a state-certified or National Rifle Association-certified firearms instructor.
8. Completing any governmental police agency firearms training course and qualifying to carry a firearm in the course of normal police duties.
9. Completing any other firearms training that the Virginia Department of State Police deems adequate.

A photocopy of a certificate of completion of any such course or class, an affidavit from the instructor, school, club, organization, or group that conducted or taught such course or class attesting to the completion of the course or class by the applicant, or a copy of any document which shows completion of the course or class or evidences participation in firearms competition shall satisfy the requirement for demonstration of competence with a handgun.
