The NRA Personal Protection Inside the Home courses are two higher level training classes that teach students the skills of defending themselves with a firearm within their homes. The Personal Protection Outside the Home course will follow one week later in a similar format. Registrants for both courses at the same time will receive a discount of $50.

By combining the two courses into one schedule, students learn WHAT REALLY HAPPENS in defensive situations from both aspects. In addition to shooting from cover, point shooting, reloading, presentation from concealment, and kneeling, the courses go over the physiological, psychological, and legal realities of a self defense encounter. Class will cover the "winning attitude-commitment to prevail" in a home defense situation; the physical and mental aspects of a life threatening encounter; PA law as it related to personal protection inside the home (conducted by a Law Enforcement Officer certified to teach the law); proper use of the firearm as a tool of last resort; defensive accuracy and reloading; use of cover; safe room preparations; making your home less vulnerable.

As pre-requisites for these courses, completion of the NRA Basic Pistol, or First Steps programs are highly recommended. {PPITH, this program, is a PRE_REQUISITE for the PPOTH component}

Students must demonstrate safe muzzle control at all times, be able to load, cock, decock, and unload their own pistol, and be able to place 10 rounds into a 9" circle at 15 feet.

Equipment requirements include a safe, centerfire pistol with at least one additional magazine, about 150 rounds of ammo, hearing and eye protection, baseball cap and tee shirt.

If anybody here has taken this class, or is palnning to take it, let me know. I'd love to hear a "review" of it from those who have participated, and touch base with anybody who may be signing up for this one. Thanks!

I took the class with Barry at Langhorne. It covers the content well and lets you shoot in some more realistic conditions. If you've not done anything but hit paper in a regular range environment, I'd recommend it.

I took the course with Phil - I think you'll find Barry to be an excellent instructor.

Barry is an excellent instructor and it's a very worthwhile class to take. As mentioned earlier, the hands on is great if you have never shot from behind cover, kneeling, etc. Barry is an excellent instructor in this regard. I would have to say though that the best part of the class is the lawyer he brings in. Having a lawyer speak to you for an hour about the legality specific to our state is a huge plus. Although it appears this law section will be taught by a LEO. Still a huge plus. Take the class, it will be money well spent.
