    Default Close Quarters Tactica Pistol

Okay, so now you can "present" in 1.5 seconds and hit a 5" circle at 50 yards. You are all kinds of fast, relative to other people who use hand guns.

But you are really, really s-l-o-w compared to how fast a contact distance assault occurs. So slow, in fact, you will never get that gun out of the holster in time to prevent your suffering serious injury.

Given the attack is a surprise, and a cover garment, most of us mortals actually need three seconds, on a good day. The problem is, if we are ever confronted with the kinds of problems we hope to address by carrying a concealed hand gun, we won’t have three seconds. We have to buy that time, or our firearms skills are irrelevant.

This following course is about how people of average physical ability can ward off injury, make distance, and put themselves in a position where resort to a hand gun is a practical possibility.

CLOSE QUARTERS TACTICS / HAND GUN
Randy Cain – Saturday August 23 and Sunday August 24, 2014.
    Pitcairn-Monroeville Sportsman’s Club - 505 Mosside Boulevard [Rt. 48] North Versailles, PA

If you were given notice there was going to be a life-threatening confrontation at a given time and place, you would arrange to be elsewhere. Armed robbers, assassins or lunatics do not announce their intentions in advance, and random violence is, by definition, not planned. Therefore, to one degree or another, these sorts of attack come as a surprise.

By every available indication (statistical, empirical, historical or anecdotal) gun fights associated with robbery and assault occur at distances of seven yards or less. In fact, the most commonly used weapons of assault are edged weapons and clubs, which can only be used at “hand shake” distances. Therefore, the problem will likely be very close - not 50 yards off. We must acknowledge the fact that if we are ever actually called upon to defend ourselves with a hand gun it will be a surprise, our adversary will initiate the confrontation from only a few steps away, and may be coming at us in a rush.

This course will address the use of efficient foot work, warding techniques, weapon retention and counter-retention (disarms) needed to buy time and create distance in the face of a sudden, armed assault at contact distance. The objective is to avoid disabling injury long enough to flee or bring a firearm to bear.

Course content: Efficient movement and foot work (to buy time and create distance); warding; weapon retention; counter-retention (disarms)

Cost: $425, plus $20 in range fees for those not members of the host club. This includes instruction, targets, range supplies and handouts. Students provide their own ammunition, personal gear and meals.

Instructor: Rangemaster will be Randy Cain. Mr. Cain is the Director of Cumberland Tactics, Inc. He has nearly two decades of professional firearms training experience, and holds a very rare "Instructor Certification" with Yavapai Firearms Academy. He is a former Rangemaster at the prestigious Gunsite Academy in Arizona, and has assisted Jeff Cooper in the highly acclaimed "Masters Series" classes at Gunsite. Mr. Cain is a registered NRA Police Firearms Instructor, has served as a police officer, SWAT team member and Training Officer. He is a graduate of the FBI Advanced SWAT School, is a member of the International Association of Law Enforcement Firearms Instructors (IALEFI). More information is available at www.guntactics.com.

Equipment Required: Hand gun, 400 rounds of ammunition; inert plastic training gun that fits your carry gear; a pair of heavy leather work gloves (to protect the hands when pistols are forcibly stripped).

Class size: Enrollment limited to 20 students. Last day to enroll is 20 days before first day of class.

Prerequisites: There is not enough time to teach students to draw safely or shoot accurately in this course. It is expected that the student has already reached a level of basic proficiency before enrolling. A handgun class from either Cumberland Tactics or any of the other trainers to which Cumberland Tactics links will suffice. You must be at least 18 years old, and proof of no criminal history is required. (Criminal history procedures are outlined in the enrollment materials.)

For Course Details, Equipment Requirements and Enrollment Materials visit the Cumberland Tactics web site: www.guntactics.com. ALL ENROLLMENT MUST BE THROUGH THE CUMBERLAND TACTICS WEB SITE. For directions or local information, visit www.fireinstitute.org.

We are now four weeks out on this one. Please contact www.guntactics.com if you are interested in this course.

I can say it is an excellent course in terms of showing of how fights actually erupt (hint: they don't start with any buzzer), and the skills necessary to live long enough to get to one's gun.

Randy Cain doesn't advertise it, but he is a 4th Dan in Tae Kwon Do, and very well versed in a number of martial arts wherein the skills necessary to disarm, retain a weapon against a disarm or get out of the way are applied.

If you are still thinking you will "just shoot" whoever is molesting you, you are among those who really NEEDS this course.
