IDPA Firearm Question
I'm new to this forum, so I apologize if this is a redudant question, I couldn't find anything similar, so I figured I'd ask.
I'm interested in becoming active in IDPA Competitions, I'm debating on 2 different 45's. I'm considering the Nighthawk Talon or the Kimber Custom Covert, price being a huge factor between the 2, but the customer service at Nighthawk seems to be 2nd to none. Any comments or feedback on this would be very helpful.

Re: IDPA Firearm Question
If you come to the Wounded Warrior Project benefit steel match I'm running on July 31, you can win 1 of 2 $500 Nighthawk certificates. Could ease the cost of buying one.
ETA: Thought about shooting USPSA? It's also a lot of fun.

Re: IDPA Firearm Question
USPSA is another competitive pistol shooting organization.
USPSA matches are typically more run and gun than IDPA with far fewer rules about where to engage targets from, in what order to engage them, etc.
I've shot both and I definitely have more fun shooting USPSA matches.

Re: IDPA Firearm Question
Just out of curiousity, why are you considering something in .45?

Re: IDPA Firearm Question
Get familiar with the IDPA rules:

As for the firearm to use, it matters a whole lot less then the shooter. Spending a whole lot of extra cash on a fancy gun will net you much much less then buying a good gun with lots of ammo for practice. Spend more money on ammo then gun.Join the groups protecting your rights from the fools trying to take them from you!

Re: IDPA Firearm Question
Quite true.
I more wanted to make sure he realizes how ammo intensive IDPA is (.45 being a little pricey for some people to go through like .22). Personally, I would consider something in 9mm because it's a lot cheaper to practice with and you get the full 10rds in the mag.
But if your heart is set on the 1911 in .45, then just ignore me because you are going to shoot a lot better with a gun you feel comfortable with and confident about.Machinist for hire - Get a hold of me if you need something made

Re: IDPA Firearm Question
As I'm new to this, it appears that most involved in the IDPA and events use the 1911 45's, not to mention I have fallen in love with a few that I've seen. Is it safe to assume from the comments here that you can pretty much use whatever caliber you would like for either of these 2 leagues being discussed, IDPA and USPSA? Also, from what I've seen, price for ammo varries only a few bucks a box, correct? Obviously that adds up over time, but...
One other note, it seems like for any competition target type events, a 5" is definitely the way to go...correct?
