Lead contamination and shooting ranges.
http://www.altoonamirror.com/page/co...l?showlayout=0
Above is an interesting article about a club in Phillipsburg that is facing closure if the State Parks people have their way.
Is the Pa. Firearms Owners taking a position on the pending legislation?

Alot of places they make them remove the contaminated soil and replace it with crushed limestone.

Re: Lead contamination and shooting ranges.
Yup...
Awhile back congress brought up concerns about wheel-weights too. About how they were flying off wheels into nature... Their proposal was to ban use of wheel-weights... have they even had an unbalanced wheel on a vehicle?
Plus, like was said, it starts in nature, it ends up in nature. If we weren't here on Earth, lead would still be around.III%

Re: Lead contamination and shooting ranges.
This article is about Phillipsburg, Cambria County, PA...
Despite what we all think about NJ, they have defended the existance of some shooting ranges VRS the Starter Castle developers and their NIMBY purchasers...
Unfortunately the NJ FG & WL public ranges are shotgun & muzzleloader only and one of the party has to have a valid NJ hunting license.

Re: Lead contamination and shooting ranges.
During a conversation I had with FOAC Chairman Kim Stolfer last night we actually discussed this proposed bill.
Kim had sent me a copy of this memorandum sent out by Rep. Scott Conklin on April 27, 2010 where he proposed the "Freedom to Shoot Act" as part of some ongoing discussions I'm working on with my locl Rep.
I asked Kim his take on this and he said FOAC opposes this legislation.
I believe his take on it was that it give too much over-reaching athority to government agencies and could very easily be used to simply shut down ranges. Theere is little allowance for input from clubs and and third party studies done by independant scientests or testing firms, therefore, the government could use their own studies as fact without having to consider any other studies. According to Kim, the EPA does not recognize lead in the context of being mixed with soil as at a gun range as a hazardous waste.
We discussed quite a few topics and this was just a very brief one, but that was my take from it.
I commented that the naming of this reminds me of the Patriot Act. Sounds good, but in reality holds an enormous potential for harm to all of us! Kim mentioned it should be more appropriatly called the Freedom to Destroy Gun Clubs Act.
Based on this, I am going to encourage my Rep. to oppose this legislation as it is written.
Maybe with some modifications it can be made senseble, but as it stands now, it looks like yet another tool that could be manipulated by anti's to control and put clubs out of business.Last edited by Broncitis; May 12th, 2010 at 09:51 PM. Reason: Added link to memorandum
