S&W Model 15 Questions...
Could someone please look up the date for when my Model 15-3 was made?
It's a 4 inch .38 special with target sights...(K frame with a square butt)
serial number 8K70xxx
And are these aftermarket target grips from back in the day, because I know they aren't original (they are S&W grips though)
Also is 9 thousandths okay for the cylinder gap??
Thanks in advance

Beautiful Gun, i have the same Gun, mine came with Pachmayr Grips, but a member here sent me some original Smith & Wesson grips - for free.
If i come accross another one i'll buy it .
To find out when you'rs is made go to www.proofhouse.com on the front page click on Smith&WEssON THEN LOOK up your serial number.

Re: S&W Model 15 Questions...
According to Standard Catalog Of Smith&Wesson 8k70000 should be 1975. The grips appear to be a very nice set of smooth presentation target grips by S&W. I think most people like 6 Thousandths cylinder gap, but I believe that S&W says that anything that is at 10 Thousandths or less is within specifications. Shoot it if you do not get any lead spitting, or excessive flame at the cylinder gap, I would think you are ok.

The gun may have come from S&W with those grips if it were ordered that way. A history letter from S&W would answer that question.
