well looks like LA wasnt the only one, Chicago did it to

    http://www.fox43.com/news/nationworl...,1303905.story

"No mother should have to bury a son," said Vallie Smith, whose son, Mario Hines, 21, was shot to death in March. Hines had been arrested in 2007 for illegally carrying a handgun himself."

"with a total of 4,050 handed in by the end of the day, Chicago police said. Fifty-five were assault weapons, 3,335 were handguns and there were 660 fake replicas."

"We have just too many guns in our society," said Mayor Richard Daley, speaking before a march in Old Town, on the Near North Side. "When someone has access to a gun, they use it."

great more BS for us responsible gun owners to go through, because we all know everyone is going to take that negatively

"Some of the guns collected are so deadly, they could pierce bulletproof vests, Weis said."

    Au contraire!

Did you forget about the "Cash For Clunkers" program already?

Not necessarily a good thing. A LOT of good vehicles were simply destroyed, and now the price of a decent used vehicle is up much higher than it used to be. If anything, it destroyed a market for the lower-income demographic.

Heck, I'm looking for a work car right now... a few years ago, you could get a decent used car with 60,000-70,000 miles, for $2-4,000 ... Now, the only thing you see in that range is a Festiva with 120,000 miles, or a 1986 crown vic with 100,000... It killed the market for no reason...

I guess if one traded a car in during the program, they could see it as a good thing.. but on the outside, it didn't do any of us much good.

My point exactly, the fed. gov. had no problem mandating the destruction of valuable goods on a massive scale.

No, but if you buy every Jennings, Raven, Bryco or other such paperweight you can find for what it's actually worth there's a possibility of making some profit.
