Mossberge 341
I was recently was given a 1973 Mossberg 341 22lr. It has firing issues in what I think may be headspace issues. However I am not 100 percent sure. I replaced the firing pin that I ordered from Havlins and it still has issues loading and firing. Can anyone recomend a reasonable gunsmith in the Lancaster area that is reasonable price wise. I dont want to put a lot of money in this gun. It is a cheap older gun but is in nice condition. I just need an idea what the problems might be. Thanks

Posted this awhile back. Just a bump to see anyone might have an idea? May take it to Tom at Backwoods and have his gun smith guy take a look at it.

Re: Mossberge 341
Not a gunsmithing tip, but is there any chance that it's just ammo finicky? Many .22 lr handguns are.

Wow, you did post this a while back.
How bout some more details. Why do you think its a headspace issue? What is it doing/not doing as far as loading? Semi auto? Is it clean?

Re: Mossberge 341
It is a bolt action with a 7 round mag. It loads fine. I have tried several types of ammo. Same results. I really have to slam tha bolt had when loading. Will fire if i do that, but not all the time. Just seams to me that the rim is not being hit hard enough. I dont know. And yes The gun is clean.

Re: Mossberge 341
You may need to Iron the chamber.
Google .22 chamber ironing tool.
That and you may need a new firing pin if it keeps happening. Inspect the chamber and firing pin for mushrooming and or damage. The ironing tool should cure the cambering issue.

Re: Mossberge 341
Well I will get the ironing tool. I did put anew firing pin in it already. That is what I did first. For $21 I will givethe ironing tool a try. I have several other 22lrs so maybe it might come in handy down the road.
