Grandfathers old revolver...
My grandfather supposedly (never met the guy) always had his 9 shot 22LR revolver by his side but after his death it just collected dust in an big old locked toolbox. After my grandmother, his wife, passed away my father acquired the pistol.
He bought the revolver at a big department store in PA many moons ago but I do not know the exact year/what laws were in effect when he purchased it. Since it was bought so long ago, probably over 40 years, is there anything he would need to have it "transfered" to him? I know there is no transfer paperwork needed for gifts within the immediately family but this is more of an inheritance than a gift. I have tried researching it but haven't found a definitive answer in regards to in-family transfers of older guns that were purchased before various firearm legislation.
Pretty much, would my dad have to transfer the gun to himself since we have no proof that his grandfather legally owned it?

Nothing needs to be done, just enjoy the heirloom.

I have a caveat to this question. I acquired a pistol from my father fater he died. He was a resident of MD. Is there anything I need to do to show leagal proof of ownership?

Re: Grandfathers old revolver...
There is a federal exemption for bequests and intestate succession for interstate transfers. If you were named in the will or executor of estate no FFL is needed, and being his son he'd be in the qualifications for intestate succession for probably every state in the country.
No FFL needed, but it wouldn't hurt.RIP: SFN, 1861, twoeggsup, Lambo, jamesjo, JayBell, 32 Magnum, Pro2A, mrwildroot, dregan, Frenchy, Fragger, ungawa, Mtn Jack, Grapeshot, R.W.J., PennsyPlinker, Statkowski, Deanimator, roland, aubie515

Re: Grandfathers old revolver...
Thanks for the advice. I figured he didn't have to do anything but after all the issues I figured I should ask instead of running into trouble down the road.
I guess the next step in a nice little safe, easy birthday gift for my dad haha.

What he said. Unless there are goofy state laws like in New York, there's no need to do any paperwork on an inherited gun even going across state lines. The last I checked, there was no requirement in Maryland and I don't believe that there is in Pennsylvania.
Basically, you treat it as if it was always yours in Maryland and then do what you'd do if you moved from Maryland to Pennsylvania which is just bring the gun in and put it into your dresser drawer.
