Default New offering from Smith & Wesson

This new line is supposed to bridge the gap between the Sigma and the M&P. They look good and they incorporated most of the things that us Sigma owners have been asking for, but STILL no .45 WTF.

It looks like a rebranded M&P pistol. Not that that's a bad thing, M&Ps are good guns. But what makes these less expensive? What corners are they cutting?

edit; I just looked at an M&P40 next to an SD40 and they are indeed distinct platforms. Kudos to S&W for innovating and bringing a new pistol to market, but I wonder what sets it apart, practically, from the M&P (aside from price)?

Any mission, any conditions, any foe at any range.
Twice the mayhem, triple the force.
Ten times the action, total hardcore.

Some similarities, but certainly not the same just going on looks.

I have an M&P9 and 40c and like them both very much. I'll take a look at these when they hit the display cases in the area as well.

looks like someone melted down a Ruger, Sig, and XD, poured it on the floor and this is what happened when cooled. Not sure what market need they are trying to fill with this one.....

M&P trigger and slide on a Sigma frame?
Guns don't kill people, it's mostly the bullets.

It appears clear to me what corners they are cutting, actually not cutting. There is less milling time spent on the slide, thus cutting less costs less money hence the blockular appearance. They look like fine pistols and I am sure they perform just with a bit less flair then the M&P series.

Speaking of M&P series, my M&P R8 has about 1,500 rounds through it now and she is one hell of a performer. Now that is what I call an M&P.

Seems similar to what Kahr did with their CW lineup. Perfectly functional weapons with cost savings from a little less outward machining/appearance. Look forward to handling one of these, but so far I like them!

Love the M&P, fantastic weapon, and the Sigma seems to fit a market for cheaper weapons that perform. Not sure what they are going for with this unless they are going to kill the Sigma line and replace it with these. Seems like a Sigma with some M&P aspects. Don't know what to think of it. I was hoping when i saw this it was slim and smaller...

What they are going for here is a way to increase profits. If it has a low MSRP, and dealers sell them for around the same price as a Sigma, they just found a new way to replace the old sigma. Sigmas have been selling like hot cakes, not because they are great guns, but because of the price. If they come out with something with a "new edge look" to it, at the same price as the sigma, they can sell even more, and stop production of the sigma.

ETA: I just looked at the MSRP, $530. for the model SD9. That means it shouldn't sell for much more than 400. I also noticed they are single stack. If they are relatively thin, maybe it's just going to appeal to a different crowd of concealed carry/home defense.
