    Default STI Spartan Feed Issues

    Greetings all,

I posted a while back about first round feed issues with my new spartan. Since then, there has been about 500 rounds through and I still get the feed problem occasionally.

I have tried 4 different mags in all (ACT, Novak, Wilson, GI) and have had the faliure with all of them, hp's and fmj's.

When the faliure occurs, I do the ole "tap and rack." The tap usually works to send the round home. However, a firm shake of the firearm works as well.

I've tried the sling shot method to load and from the slide lock. Faliure occurs with both.

It's a great shooter when the bullets get in the pipe.
    Any info is greatly appreciated.
    Cheers

Is the gun is almost in lockup? Slide just not all the way home?

Run the gun WET with lube. The whole rail should be coated as well as the outside of the barrel. Remoil doesn't count as a lube.

If that isn't it and it won't go to battery, then the extractor probably needs lightened up a hair.

I really need more info about what the malfunction looks like.

    WD-40 doesn't count either.

    What brand of ammo?

I run it wet....with rem oil.
Bought some break free but haven't tried it yet.

When the slide is released, the round hits the feed ramp but does not slide into the chamber. That's how I would describe it. After a tap or a shake, it goes home.

I had thought to buff/polish the feed ramp but decided against it due to my inexperience with that area. There is a small machine mark on the feed ramp, but not where the malfunction occurs so I ruled that out.

Tried all kinds of ammo, Fed, AE, WWB, HST, Reloads, Speer, CCI. Ruled out ammo.

Talk to me about extractor tweaking. Saw a few things over at the 1911 forum that pointed in that direction as well.
    cheers

Bullet nose hits the feed ramp and stops?...or Bullet nose travels up ramp to top of chamber and stops?

Ditch the Remoil for guns. Good for hinges around the house.

Also.....does this happen when the mag is loaded half way as well as topped off?

Bullet nose hits the feed ramp and stops, yes.

Haven't tried a half full mag. Only topped off mags.

    Thanks for taking the time.

I'm headed over to SPAG today and will document any failure issues as best I can. I'll try the half full mag and give you feedback. Anything else I should try, just let me know.
    cheers

OK, that's not an extractor issue. More likely a mag lip or slide speed issue.

Lube it up hard to start and try half a mag.

Just got back from the range and no failures to report. Grrrrrr.......
    Wouldn't you know it?

Lubed it good with the break free, started with half full mags. 50 rds no issues. Went to full mags, no issues.

    That's a good thing I guess.
    Thanks.

The moral of this story... Friends don't let friends use Rem Oil.
