    Default Huh? .410 Rifled Slug?

I was killing my lunch hour today at Gander Mountain and was looking at various ammo just for shits and giggles. At the end of the aisle were .410 rifled slugs. I never knew they made such a thing...the winchester box had the velocity stated at 1800 fps. Does anyone shoot these, and have they had any success on a deer?

Totally worthless for shooting anything larger then an enraged chicken. Not very accurate either. They are shot from a smoothbore.

They've been around for quite awhile. My daughters shoot them. They're as accurate as any out of a smootbore and regular bead sight. They havn't shot at a deer yet, so I can't answer the second part of your question.

I've used them for many, many years in my derringers and shotties. Accuracy isn't that great, but they will stop a deer if placed in the heart and lung areas.

My grandpap on my dad's side who isnt much of a hunter, has killed his only 3 deer in life using a Nobel .410 pump with slugs.

I wouldn't even try it myself.

Can't testify as to terminal velocity knock down power but after squirrel hunting today, stopped at the range and decided to fire for patterning of my #6shot 2/12" .410 Mossberg 500 pump shotgun. At 35 yards the shot pattern well covered a target 2' x 3'. At the same distance with rifled slugs it was very accurate, able to hit not only the center mass of the target but a clay target with one shot. The dirt embankment behind the target was torn up by the impacting 1/4 oz. Tried the #6 shot loads at 25' and it devistated the target with a 2-3" diameter hole. Not very scientific but I was satisfied with the accuracy. Probably 50-60 yards would be the maximum effective distance for the slug though.
