Remington's making a 1911 (again)
Yet another addition to the already overcrowded 1911 market....
from http://www.thefirearmblog.com/blog/2...ngton-1911-r1/
In November last year rumors started circulating that Remington would introduce a 1911 pistol. The Remington 1911 R1 has finally been officially announced.
Back in 1917, at the height of WWI, the U.S. Ordnance Department ordered Remington-UMC1 to produce 500,000 1911 pistols. By the time the Armistice was signed on November 11, 1918 Remington had produced 21,677 1911s. 91 years later Remington is once again producing John M. Browning's famous design.
The new Remington 1911 R1 pistol is a variant of the 1911A1 design. Remington has added a flared and lowered ejection port, beveled magazine well, loaded chamber indicator, high profile dovetailed single-dot front and two-dot rear sights, a crisp 3.5-5 lbs trigger and a match grade stainless steel barrel with barrel bushing.
The pistols will be manufactured at the Remington factory in Ilion, New York. Remington plans on shipping the pistols in June.Specifications

Looks like a competitor with the Springfield Mil-Spec GI version.
I like it.

That looks beautiful. I have been wanting a new 1911, and this just might fit the bill.

The thing will sell, so doubt. That is like saying the over crowded bolt action deer rifle market, or television market, or truck market, or lawn mower market.....

I like it too. I've been thinking about a 1911 and since my dad's 1911 is a WW1 vintage I'd really love to have a Remington one to sort of carry on the family tradition in a way. Definitely cool to see the 2nd oldest 1911 maker back at it again.

I carried a Remington Rand 1911 in the service. Is this pretty much the same company?
