    Default Taurus 1911 .38 Super

I was not able to find an RIA 1911 in .38 Super, so the search goes on. I noticed that Taurus seems to make several models of 1911 in .38 Super. Does anyone have experience with these? I know that there are a lot of posts regarding the .45 cal. version, but I am specifically interested in the .38 Super.

At this point, I would also be willing to hear any other recommendations for a good quality firearm in .38 Super.

    Thanks,
    Elliott

I've got a Taurus PT38 in .38 Super and like it. The only trouble I've had with it was when I tried some low presser loads. Some would not cycle and I got stove pipes. Mid-range to full power do fine.

If I can find the 1911 in .38 Super, it will go home with me.

I've heard lots of good things about the Taurus 1911's. Only bad thing I heard was sometimes the ambi-safety breaks, but it's an easy replacement. I'm looking for one in 9mm.

I owned one as well. It was very nice. A friend of mine had the Colt Commander in .38 super, which I often shot, and there is some quality differences but for the price, the Taurus is great. I ended up having to purchase a slide stop from Wilson Combat (the factory one wouldn't catch the slide) and I also needed to get two Colt mags because the factory ones consistently failed to feed the last round. Those are pretty cheap fixes, and after that you have a quality gun.

Thanks for the input, everyone! I am encouraged to hear that they seem like good guns. I wish that I could find one locally to inspect in person.
