Question A question for the 1911 experts...

I am looking at possible purchasing my first 1911, used, from a guy in the other side of the country. So I won't be able to hold it in my hands before purchasing it.

It's a Springfield Loaded Model #PX9104LP, and we're still haggling over price.

Can I get any opinions on this piece as a target and carry pistol?

They guy wants $900 for it and various things I don;t really need, like a IWB holster and some ammo, so I'm still waiting to see what his rock-bottom price is for the gun and magazines alone.

Here is a quick link to some of the specs for this one...

The one he has is identical to the one is this expired ad.

For what it's worth, I would be "trading up" from a SA XD45. I do not compete, I just want it for carry and paper punching.

    What are your thoughts?
While many claim to support the right, precious few support the practice.

Are you sure you will be able to fight off the envious onlookers? SA is a good company, I say go for the 1911 and don't look back. A 1911 is my next purchase btw.

Have you ever heard the term "court gun"

That`s a beautiful loaded model. If you can get it for 800 and it`s new or a low round count it`s a deal. Retail is a grand.

I didn't look at the link but I have a Springfield Mil-Spec that I upgraded and is similar to the Loaded model. 900 seems a bit high for a used Loaded model unless the new prices have gone up as high as ExBiker says. I thought you could get a new one for 8 or 900. Anyway, its a good shooter. If you've never shot one I'd be happy to let you try mine if you were close to Centre/Clinton county. I wouldn't hesitate to buy another Springfield 1911.

$900 seems very, very high. I recently purchased a lightly used loaded model for $400.

I think i've seen those new for about 850-900. I don't think i'd pay more than $725 if that if its used and to far away to inspect first.

Aluminum frame ? Are you sure you want this model ?
One thing thats a must on a 45ACP 1911 for me is a full steel frame. The aluminum is going to handle very differnetly than what your expecting if you have shot other 1911's.
I didnt even know they made a loaded with a lightweight frame. I thought that had another designation

FWIW I took a friend to ACE in Washington county a few months back and helped him pick out a loaded in SS and IIRC he paid around $750 NIB.

    $900 is way high.

You should be very careful about buying an Aluminum Framed 1911. I would never purchase one without seeing it first.

Most dealers on gun genie have that model for around $800.00 brand new. Go to their site and do a dealer search and check prices. If it comes up allocated it could be avalible to that dealer. Hope this helps...

Not to hijack the thread but, what is a "court gun"?
    My 2 guesses:
One that can be worn in a formal setting.
Or one that will hold up in court because it's tried and true and can't be construed as an "dangerous, non external safety, xray-proof, automatic assault pistol"?
