Any M1A1 Carbine owners?

Hey all!

My family recently just bought a brand new AK47 from Arsenal and haven't shot it yet.

Thing is, my mother is almost 50 years old and only shot a gun for the first time two weeks ago (because she grew up in NYC). She wanted something a bit smaller and less recoil, so i went to the range, walked in and did the CMP. I shot an M1 Garand and it nearly broke my arm so i put that away. I picked up some ARs and then i picked a M1 carbine back from WWII and i shot it and when my mother came to come pick me up, i let her shoot it.


Is there any companies out there that design M1 Carbines that aren't all knocked up from past wars?

the short answer is yes. there have been several commercial versions as well as one still in current production.

the long answer is, it's best to avoid them.
yeap some people bought some and they worked just fine, but most that have them can not say the same.
the one that is currently available brand new, has had some pretty nasty issues....one of which was firing out of battery.
basically "they" have been unable to produce in the commercial market place a gun that was originally produced in full out world war, (to the tune of some six million plus guns in less than five years) and have it actually work the way they should.
not to mention you will pay as much if not more than a true usgi gun. the original may be rough looking, but it has probably been there and done that.



and as a side note, the m1a1 is the folding stock version of the gun.
the regular version is just the m1carbine....the garand is an m1 also......there was a sub gun that was an m1 too....there was an m1a1 model also.

I love my M1 carbine, it's a National Postal Meter. You can find a decent one at a gun show. The WWII carbines run anywhere from $500 to $900.

OR:

you can take a beat up US GI carbine, have it re-parked and put in a new stock. I have a collection of these great old weapons, and I have one that I shoot, worked over by Fulton Armory. It's a great shooter, looks excellent, and has been absolutely reliable. It is NOT in a folding stock (that would be an M1A1), but it is in M1 configuration, and the wood is excellent, as new wood should be.

I have no experience with modern made M1 carbines, but have found this is a way to have great shooter with classic look.

Alternatively, you may want to consider a .22 - enough of them out there. I have a Ruger 10/22 - plain, simple, easy to shoot.

Most will at least display commonly found handling marks.

If you qualify purchasing a M1 Carbine from the CMP is a great way to acquire one. It will be checked out by them and graded and come with papers stating it has been purchased through the CMP.

Here is a somewhat recent Service Grade M1 Carbine from the CMP that I acquired. A few handling marks but otherwise in pretty decent shape as you can see.
