I just took a look at my PT1911. The words and emblems are engraved on and actually recessed into the slide. I wont bother redoing it I think. What is that wax stuff that people rub into the engraving to usually make them stand out? Ill get it in black and try to suppress mine. Where do you get it? Thanks

You can fill in the engravings with crayon. Heat the slide with a hair dryer or heat gun, then apply the crayon. Let it dry and remove the excess with a credit card then clean with gun oil. Here's a more in detail video:

Word. I've been thinking about it for a while. Does anybody know what's different about the Durabake as opposed to the regular Duracoat? (Aside from the fact that you bake it and it comes in aerosol cans.)

the difference is u bake it thats it. and if any plastic on the gun dont use brake clean it will melt into it. i did m girls p11 in pink and black and it looks real nice to this day yet. . also did a few in black and white too. i dont know if that sprayer wil work or not. i bought a cheap air brush kit on ebay for like 70 bucks works fine.

Maybe I will order some Durabake. I'm only doing the slide so I'm not worried about melting any plastic. Thanks for the tips!

any autoparts store, NAPA, ADVANCED AUTO PARTS, ETC.

    OR

you can go to the dollar general the cans are 2.00 insted of 6.00
they say chlorinated brake cleaner.. the chlorinated stuff does work better then non-cholr stuff

as a side DO NOT spray break cleaner on hot parts it releases phosgene gas (chemical warfare) (extremely poisonous one breath will make you sick and hospitalize you for weeks)

I had my FAL Duracoated five years ago by Lauer Custom Weaponry, the company who markets Duracoat. It is a great finish and looks like it will outlast me.
