Default S&W M&P 40c returning home for repair:(

Well my M&P 40c has had an ongoing problem. The slide locks back with rounds still in the magazine. I ran as many rounds through it as I could to see if the problem would work itself out. I had the slide lock back 7 times in the last 100 rounds I shot. This is totally unacceptable for a defensive pistol.

I called Smith and Wesson and I was told I probably bent the mag. release spring by cleaning the mag. well. Thats a new one. Once I explained that this was a well known problem he changed his story and took my information to send me a shipping label. I hope then can get this thing working or I will be in the market for something compact for summer carry.

Does anyone have any experience with S&W customer service? What kind of turn around do they have? I'm frustrated I've never owned any gun that had problems right out of the gate.

My 9c made a "pilgrimage" back to Springfield a few months ago. They emailed a FedEx shipping label (.pdf file). I printed the label, boxed up the gun, and took it to the FedEx office (not one of the contract office places -- most of the them won't accept firearms). They didn't bat an eye and tossed it on the pile. It was back at my door in two weeks.

Each time the slide locked did it have only one round left in the magazine?

It happens with both of my magazines. Its not always one round left in the magazine. I'm an experienced shooter, it isn't my grip. If they can't correct the problem I guess I'll trade it for a Glock 19. The slide won't lock back with rounds in the mag. with that!

S&W is known for great customer service. My girlfriend had her front sight pop off of her Walther P22 and S&W had a new one at her house in less than a week. I once called and asked where I could get a replacement grip for my 681 and they sent me one free of charge.

There are a bunch of fixes they have done to different peoples guns. New recoil spring and rod, heavier slide stop spring, new magazine followers. I think my gun was old enough that it needs all these. This is a known problem I just wish they would have recalled the pistols and fixed them. It took me about $200.00 worth of ammo to find out my gun is broken. Now, when it is returned I need to run a ton more through it just to see if it works. It might just cost me less to buy the glock and put the M&P in the safe.
