The ruger LCP is good. S&W is going to be coming out with a new small .380 soon.

Personally, I would go to atleast a 9mm platform for self defense. But if your minds made up, check out the LCP. Very easy to carry.

i am really not a big fan of open carrying myself. in the summer i would like a gun small enough that could be concealed under a t-shirt. that is the reason i am looking at the .380 plus i like a low recoil pistol i have bad pain in my hands most days. From what i understand the .380 and 9mm is the same bullet diameter at .355. since i cast and reload making ammo for it is not an issue. Please keep the suggestions coming.

Agreed. If you're going to OC, or even CC you could get a larger pistol, or a pistol the same size with more punch. If its a matter of price there are still lots of options. The Kel Tec PF9, Taurus 85, PT111, used S&W 642, and lots more. I'm sure others will chime in.

If you can carry more gun I see no reason not to. Then again, its up to you.

SIG P238 is great gun for the summer under a polo and pair of Khaki shorts.

While .380 is on the lower end, I prefer a 40 IWB.

The SIG P238 is awesome and I recommend it to anyone.

my main carry is the Keltec PF-9 and I love it. I don't think I would go less than 9mm for a carry weapon.

+1 on the P238. I carry mine in a RKBA pocket holster (http://rkbaholsters.com/). Disappears in the pocket. Due to the limited round count, I also carry a spare mag.

If you're concerned about recoil, the P238 is a good option. My fiance, who is petite, can shoot one handed with accuracy and precision b/c of the low recoil.
