Instructor shot student during gun safety class
Well, the title pretty much sums it up. In Ohio a dumbass instructor shot his own student while demonstrating his gun in the course of a gun safety class. Epic fail.

Re: Instructor shot student during gun safety class
This instructor failed the first rule of firearm safety.
Treat every firearm as if it is loaded.
He also seemed to forget the first thing you do when picking up a firearm. Make sure it is clear.

Piemonte tells the newspaper it appears Dunlap didn't know the gun was loaded.

"73-year-old Terry J. Dunlap Sr."
Maybe the beginning of Alzheimer. At the very minimum his entire class will most likely clear any gun that they ever pick up after that.

Re: Instructor shot student during gun safety class
The anti's will have a field day with this. it's not like its some drunk rednecks shooting themselves. This is a guy, a certified instructor, he should know better.
I'm always preaching we need to do a better job education people about safe firearm handling practices. How do you defend against this?
I bet those in the class will never forget the four rules after this. Tough way to learn for the guy who got shot."No, it's just a machine. I'm the weapon." - Jack Harper in Oblivion

Re: Instructor shot student during gun safety class
There are a lot more guns in circulation, there are a lot more people purchasing guns that never had an interest before, new gun owners. Its unfortunate but I think an increased number of these kinds of things can be expected.
