Sig 556 Classic
After getting rid of a few guns on here to help fund my next purchase, I was finally able to pick up a rifle to go with my pistol.
I get a phone call from a buddy telling me one of these walked into the store, he put it on hold for me as soon as he saw it. I had it on hold one day, layaway one more, then came home with it a day later.
I am really happy with the feel of everything so far. Even the "Classic" stock that looks cheap as hell, feels and shoulders really nice. Breakdown is incredibly simple. Cleaning will be a snap. Early this week I am planning on hitting the range with it, so expect some more pics from the range.
The only problem I really have is...why the hell isn't there a REAL rear sight on this rifle? Seriously. Now I have to go out and spend more money on a Sig drum sight. Bastards.
Now to get a ton of Pmags, a new muzzle brake, rear sight, and a crap load of ammo.Is it five o'clock yet?

Re: Sig 556 Classic
I want some solid irons before I throw any sort of optics on there. I would hate to be dependent on any sort of dot or scope. Eventually, maybe an Aimpoint.

Nice good luck with it.
I picked up the swat model last month. To bad you didn't get it sooner, sig had a $300 rebate.

Re: Sig 556 Classic
I hit the range last night after work. Tested it out at 25 yards first to see if it was at all close with the sights. I was pleasantly surprised. 55 rounds were fired at 25 yards.
I decided that it was worth trying out to 100 yards with irons. After hanging a target and walking back to the bench, I realized the front sight pretty much covered up the entire thing at that range. So I kinda guessed, fired 5 rounds and went to check. 1 round on target, at the very top edge of paper. I walk back and adjust my aim a tad bit lower, still covering up about 90% of the target, fire 5 more, and walk up to check. I was very happy to see 5 little holes.
I would LOVE to get any sort of decent optic on this puppy. If I could actually SEE the target I can probably pull off some pretty decent groups.
I was running some cheap 55 grain steel cased Tula Russian ammo. It ran great. It smelled bad and was pretty dirty, but was cheap. Works for me.
Hopefully next time at the range I can put more than 70 rounds through the rifle. I get paid on Thursday, so I think I may be picking up a bit more ammo.

25 yards. The 5 shot group at the bottom were my first five shots through this rifle. After I got used to it, the groups tightened up quite a bit.
100 yards

I don't think the plain furniture looks cheap, just 'clean'.
You're right about that rear sight, though..."...a REPUBLIC, if you can keep it."
