I think you posted this in the wrong forum. It may be better off in the shotgun forum or perhaps the general forum, given the home defense question.
Anyway, a shotgun make s a good home defense gun. The 870 is a major staple in the shotgun market. It's very popular and versatile. It's been around a long time. You can't go wrong with an 870 or a Mossberg 500.
