Default Anyone know why we have this jacked up hunting law??

Anyone know why we have this jacked up hunting law??
Guess I will have to scratch the idea of using my new revolver with
.38 spl. wad cutters on rabbits.

    Small Game Regulations

    Arms & Ammunition:
    1) Manually operated and autoloading shotguns with a capacity of no more than 3 shells in the chamber and magazine combined.
    2) Manually operated rifles and handguns less than 23 caliber.
    3) Muzzleloading rifles and handguns 40 caliber or less and shotguns.
    4) long, recurve and compound bows and arrows.
Singleprojectile ammunition or fine shot pellets no larger than No.4 lead, bismuth-tin, or tungsten-iron, or No. 2 steel.
Note: Rifle and handgun caliber restrictions do not apply when hunting woodchucks. While hunting small game during the bear or muzzleloader deer seasons, the only rifle or handgun that can be used is a 22 caliber or less rimfire.

    I wish I knew. 22lr from a revolver doesn't take down squirrels with consistency. So bought a .32 that I can't use.

it wasn't always this way , they are afraid of poachers I suppose, never mind they don't seem to care when you report poaching but thats a different story. When I go small game hunting I would carry the 44 on my hip , now I got to be careful since they passed that law and I've used the 38spl for some hunting just for something different and I am sure somewhere , on some distant mountain top , at some time in the history of the world , this law will stop some evil doer from doing evil and we will live long and prosper. That is the long answer , short answer the pa game com getting more boogered up every year

Did this law just go into effect this yr.?

This really puts the dampers on the guys I know that like to use the old
Winchesters in 25-20, 32-20 cal. on squirrels and rabbits.
But yet it's okay to use the .222 or .22 Hornet.

Something sure is wrong with this picture.

No it did not start this year , it was certainly in effect last hunting season and I am getting old but I can't recall if the year before that it was in effect , this is either the 2nd or 3rd year , we got this law when they changed something , can't recall what that was either , I got way too much info in my head and some leaks out sorry. And yes alot of folks don't seem to see the problem , 1st this hasn't solved any problems , guys still poaching left and right around here and the game com could care less "honestly" I can vouch for at least since 1992 tryin to get them to do something along with other club members , but now folks like me who like to pack a 44 on their hip or sometimes smack a squirrel with their 38 are the outlaws.
If i was goin to poach a deer I wouldn't pull my 44 while hunting small game , I would just take the 3006 out whenever I feel like it and shoot one , just like they already do all year long around here. Late muzzle loader seaon has more guys with center fires shooting deer than guys with flint locks , game com doesn't care , they say they do on the phone but don't , actually their biggest interest is in the atv's which funny enough , are not a problem

If this law was indeed put into effect to Curtail poaching,
then they got it all wrong.

The predominantly used caliber weapon in poaching is the .22 rimfire.

If I had to guess, it's to keep guys like me from blasting away at squirrels with a 308. Yeah, I'd be that guy. Sorry.

I do load a sabot-ed 22 cal bullet into my 308. I called the game commission and asked them if I could use these. Their response was along the lines of ---
Yes, BUT.... if at the end of the day, I walk out of the woods with a 30 cal rifle, 4 squirrels, and a pocket full of empty brass, how can I prove to Mr. Green Jeans that what actually hit the squirrel was a 22 cal bullet? They advised against it.
