    Default Best gun for LA

I'm originally from PA but because of certain circumstances i had to move to Louisiana (right dead center of it). i was in the market for a 1911 while i was up there but now i dont think it would be a such a wise choice. what would be best down here for basically doing anything and everything. but please guns that are not stainless. thanks for your help.

It's too broad for any real answer.

For hunting? Rem 700 in .308
    Self defense? Glock 22
    Zombies? ????

No one can decide what gun would be best for you, and where you are. Your best bet is to go, look at all the ones you can. Get a fewel for them, shoot them if you can.

And then, see what one suits you best. I'm a firm believer that the gun chooses the person, not the other way around.

im perfectly fine with rifles and shotguns.
    i have a 30-06, 22lr, and a 12gauge, and basically that all i really need.
but im in search of a nice revolver/hangun with a 4-5 inch barrel that isnt stainless.

The which handgun debate could go on forever. With the number of manufactureers, models, and calibers, there are litterally millions of choices.

First what you need to do is look at if you want a semi auto, or a revolver. Weigh the pros, and cons, and then decide which would be best for you.

Then you can look into calibers, and models, and the like. Personally, I carry a taurus pt140. I love it, but I'm getting a new springfield 1911 once it comes in. It really depends on personal preference.

If anything, I would want the stainless gun due to high humidity which area routinly encounters.
Is it because you don't like silver guns? Many stainless guns can be had in blackened(my M&P's are stainless, but blackened with melonite. I do believe so is XD's and Glock's)
1911 in stainless or S&W 686 with 4" barrel(which is also in stainless. But you can get them in carbon steel with 586) would be my choice, but knowing specific purpus, it's hard to decide
I wonder if 357mag is enough for some wild clitters you'll encounter down there(don't they have Gaters down there?)

If you run into Steven Segal get us a picture... Maybe in a PAFOA hoody?

Joking aside, we need to know what you are going to use the gun for to better help you.

I initially thought this thread was referring to Los Angeles, and I was going to recommend a heavy duty machine gun with lots of extra ammo

There is no prescription for a do it all handgun. However, I have my own biased opinion:

The Smith and Wesson Performance Center 327 M&P R8

I have one of these and it is awesome. 8 shots of .357 can do quite a bit, or use .38 special for practice. This works on social problems as well as dietary problems. You can find these for much less then MSRP lightly used and holsters can be had for this fine shooting device. These are not prone to rust much due to the materials used (scandium aluminum frame, stainless steel barrel insert etc).
