ARs in 7.62/.308
Which AR-10 style rifle would/have you bought and what are/were the reasons behind your choice? Looking for ones in a "sniper" or similar setup.
(I'm doing that research for future purchase thing again )Last edited by Warpt762x39; April 7th, 2010 at 12:19 AM.

Re: ARs in 7.62/.308
DPMS/Knights pattern.
Fulton Armory UPC/UPR uppers (http://www.fulton-armory.com/)
18.5/22" Krieger Criterion med/heavy matte stainless bbls.
A2 FH
Fulton/YHM configurable FF tube
Std. A3 Style upper receiver (forward assist and cover)
Not cheap and I had to wait, but good solid components, "matching" the AR-15s I was building
YHM Rails
Troy BUIS
Assembled my own DPMS based lowers
DPMS Lower & LPK
White Oak Armory tuned RRA 2-stage trigger / CMMG 2-stage trigger
DPMS M4 Style & Magpul UBR stocks.
I went DPMS/Knights pattern because it seemed to be the evolving "standard" for mags. They are now available from DPMS, C-Products, Magpul, and Knights (yea, right). Several other makers (including fulton & POF IIRC) are also making compatible lowers.Keep perspective, recognize the good in your enemies and the bad in your friends.

+1 I just picked up a DPMS SASS. I got a great deal on it. Pmags are 19$ much better then paying 45$ for Armalite mags

Re: ARs in 7.62/.308
Just got a Armalite AR10. Don't ask me what version model it is. Has a 20" barrel with a regular stock with the cleaning equip. compartment, a "flat top" reciever and this funny type of front gas block with a rail and no sight. Installed a Burris 3-9 scope on Burris mounts. Shot it with Surplus ammo of diffrent types. Shoots ok. Can hit a 6" plate at 400 yards almost every time. It came with only one 20 round mag. Took some Chinese M14 mags and cut the hole in the side for the catch and the notch in the rear for the bolt hold-open latch. They work good but they will not work the bolt open catch on the last shot. So far so good. The gun seems to be made well and solid. Come apart easy to clean and the two stage trigger is easy. It was more money than the DPMS. Time and lots of bullets down the tube will tell.

Re: ARs in 7.62/.308
A local dealer by me had a really nice looking Armalite AR-10 that had a forward assist. The gun appeared to be very well made, and I would for sure choose the forward assist on any model of .308 AR-15. It's simply better to have it than not. In a .308 semi I prefer the Springfield M1-A. In the SOCOM 16 Model it's just as compact. But if I wanted a .308 AR, the Armalite would be my choice. Bill T.

It is simply an option that is better to have than not to. Especially when it adds little to no extra cost to the weapon. Bill T.

Re: ARs in 7.62/.308
Maybe it's just me, but I'd go for a Rock River if I wanted a "sniper" set up .308 AR. One of the models with a flat top, low profile gas block, free float rail, 20 inch barrel and fixed stock. They already come with a nice 2 stage trigger. All you need to add is a scope and a bipod and you're good to go.
