    VICKERS TACTICAL AK COURSE DESCRIPTION

Please note that the exact course content can and will vary depending on the skill level of the participants in the class

Vickers Tactical AK class: Topics covered include safety, stance, zeroing for iron sights and optics, sight alignment and trigger control. Familiarization with their carbine includes field stripping and maintenance. Other subject matter that is covered includes reloads, presentation, shooting positions, and introduction to different skill drills including dry fire and bullseye shooting. Malfunction drills and shooting on the move as well as transitions. Timed fire drills and evaluations based on class skill level. Instruction on the development of the AK and variations, as well as suggested modifications.

    * Must shoot an AK or AK variant (Galil, Valmet, VZ 58 style rifles, etc.)

    * Price: $400 + $20 range fee (there are no discounts applicable to this course)

    * Tuition is non-refundable within 30 days of the start date of the course. However, if the course is cancelled tuition will be refunded in full.

    * Serviceable handgun (for transition training) of at least 9mm

    * Ammo: 800 rifle, 150 pistol

    Gear requirements:

    1. Eye & Ear protection (electronic hearing protection is strongly recommended)
    2. Minimum four (4) high capacity AK mags, minimum two (2) handgun mags and a chest pouch to hold 3-4 AK mags would be preferred
    3. Handgun mag pouch – Ability to carry a spare pistol mag on body
    4. Serviceable AK sling- suitable for a variety of shooting positions – tactical type preferred
    5. Suitable range wear depending on the season
    6. Confirm rifle zero at at least 50 yards

There are no pre-requisites for this course. It can be your very first Vickers Tactical class.

    Other Equipment Requirements:

There is certain equipment which is REQUIRED in every course. One may not proceed in the course without the following:

    * Cap or hat with baseball-style bill. This is to prevent ejected brass from another shooter's rifle from falling between your eyewear and your eye, burning you. It is important gear.

    * Knee and elbow pads. The inexpensive kind worn by skateboarders, or pads worn by carpenters and carpet layers are fine.

    * We recommend students use one brand of ammunition throughout the course. Different brands and loads of ammunition will significantly affect "zero", which will distract and confuse you in a course such as this. We also suggest students avoid the very cheapest ammunition and reloads. While "match grade" ammunition would be a waste of money, your investment in this course does justify the use of reasonably consistent ammunition. No incendiary, tracer or armor piercing rounds are permitted.

    * A sling. We run a "hot" range, and rifles must be slung unless they are racked, grounded or in the shooter's hand on line. Any type sling which allows the rifle to be carried muzzle up or muzzle down is fine. No slings which hold the muzzle in a horizontal position while being carried (M60 style) are permitted.

There is other equipment that is not required, but which we know from experience will enhance your experience of the course. We therefore recommend you bring the following:

    * Soft drinks or water to drink while down on the range. There is no water on the range itself, and the Club house is too far to run back and forth. No alcohol of any kind is to be consumed within eight hours of the start of any course session or at any time during the course.

    * Back-up rifle. A second rifle is also a good idea, if you own or can borrow one. Firearms do break, and we cannot stop the course to make repairs. Even if we had time, parts may not be available, and many repairs cannot be accomplished in the field.

    * A ground cloth, shooting mat or other cover (such as an old blanket), to cover the ground or concrete shooting pads upon which you will be periodically sitting or lying.

    * Camera.

    * Sight-adjustment tool for iron sights on your particular rifle (these are available at gun shows for about $4.00).

    * Gloves (either shooting gloves or light work gloves).

We still have openings in this class.

Here is an AAR of this class in NC this past weekend.

Next week we will come to the 30-day cut-off for this course. That is the date where we say we have enough people or we don't, and we either cancel or the course is a "go."

Right now we don't have enough people. If you are "intending," "thinking about," "interested in," "wanting," or otherwise contemplating this course, then make a decision and let us know. Yours could be the enrollment that makes the difference, one way or the other.

I really don't want to cancel this course, and then see 15 posts about, "Awww ... I wanted that one." If you want it, don't wait for everyone else to make it possible and then expect to stroll in. Commit, and it will happen. Or, at worst, you get your check back.

Man, I am going to be one POed if this class is canceled. All the AK people on this site and we can't fill this class just blows me away.

Hope you can fill this one up.

There are not that many folks that teach the AK-specific manual of arms.

I would be there in a heartbeat, but the wifey would kill for me for missing our wedding anniversary.

    Here's the deal ....

We don't have enough, and it is 30 days before the first day of the class. Cancellation is now up to Mr. Vickers. He said wait until Monday to make a decision, so we go with that.

We will announce more late on Monday.

So, how many people do we have signed up and how many are we suppose to have to hold a class?

Would be neat if we have the class. It will be like having a small personal class with low numbers on hand. Would provide us with lots of one on one with Larry. Oh well, we'll see what happens.

To be clear, this course has been scratched for lack of interest.

Refunds will be mailed later this week.
