I recently purchased a firearm from them, brand new, and it had a catastrophic failure in the first five rounds put through it. I brought it back, the guy at the counter agreed with me that this was a manufacturing issue. Tom accused me of breaking it intentionally, tried to tell me it was just an issue with a spring, and "fired several mags through it himself without issue". When he tried to disassemble it to "show me how I re-assembled it wrong" the gun had the same issue as what I brought it in with. Tom refused to do anything about it and offered half the value of it to me. In the end I contacted the manufacturer and they told Backwoods to refund my money, replace the gun, or they would loose their distributorship....
I have never used the gunsmith services at Backwoods Outfitters. You referred to "Tom". I know that a "Tom" is the owner. Is he the gunsmith or is this another "Tom"? And if two "Toms" which one accused you of breaking firearm?

And what type of firearm did you have a problem with and can you give more details on the problem? And welcome to the forum.

I'm pretty sure that the owner Tom is not the gunsmith. I have been in the store when the gunsmith came in to drop off and pick up work. It seems the smith they use is not an employee of the store.

Lanco Tactical in Elizabethtown. The owner and employees know what they are talking about, they have a great selection of high quality gear and are very friendly to talk to. I will definitely go back.

Trops is a great place too. The address for Lanco is: 498 West High Street, Elizabethtown PA 17022 #717-367-7221

They are located near the Masonic Homes and have a map on their website. I would guess about 3-4 miles away.

I'll take a look. They open late from what I recall. They have ammo and mags or just lots of 5.11 gear? Just curious.

Tom, I assume is the owner. When we finally got them to refund us the money for the firearm after several weeks, he pulled out his personal checkbook to write us the check. He is also the one that accused me of breaking it. I do not feel the need to discuss what type of firearm it was, simply because this issue is resolved and I do not need anyone getting worked up and upset. I simply stated my experience, agitation, and concern with my dealing in the store.

To the guy who posted about Morr outdoors....agreed...

They had ammo and a ton of mags. Lots of Magpul parts, several nice AR's, shotguns, AK's, a bunch of pistols, optics and about everything you could want. They have the skill to build your AR however you would like, but most of all I could sense a lot of experience without being pushy.

I do like Trops a lot, but I would like to help the 'smaller' guys grow as well.
