Default ak 47's at surplus city?

Hey anyone ever pick up an ak from these guys? I'm in the market for my 1st ak and I really don't know anything about them, I've read some posts here but all i can gather from those is don't get a century arms or wasr 10 because of canted sights and wobbly mags or something like that. Unfortunately, everywhere i go this is the kind they carry. I called surplus city and they said they had some yugo underfolders?? Has anyone purchased an ak there and what was there selection like. What "kind" should I consider good quality. Don't wanna spend more than $500.

I've bought quite a few guns there. The Yugos they have are Century as well.
But don't let that stop you. You find the Century arguement is 99% B.S 1% truth. UF looks cool but shoulder it first and see if you can get a good cheek weld, I can't and thats why I don't one. Either way just get an AK you love it and before you know it you'll have a few more.

Ok. Yeah, i don't really want an underfolder anyway. I want the classic looking ak with the wood stock, hand grip. How much should i expect to pay there?

I haven't been in there for a month or so but there prices are usually always below everyone else. Example the cheapest Yugo UF I've seen on the internet was $469. Plus you have to add shipping and transfer fee at your ffl and you can't hand pick it. Last time I was at Surplus City they Wanted $499 for the Yugo, so $499+ $30 tax and $5 or $10 transfer and you can hand pick. If it was me personaly I would get a nice WASR and beat the snot out of it, theres no shame in bubba-ing it up if feel like. Then you get the "one", the keeper, the one thats so pretty you take it out of the safe just fondle it. Thats my $.02

i was just in surplus city yesterday and they have several AK47 models to choose from. They had the new milled receiver polish model century is producing and it comes with wooden furniture and straight stock, galil clones, yugo straight stock, wasr10 w/underfolder, straight stock wasr10, bullpup AK and romanian PSL's. prices ranged from around 400 bucks for the wasr to a little over 700 for the milled receiver AK's. they also had a bunch of garands for 375 and well used Colt AR15 for 700. there's a lot of well deserved bitching and moaning about century builds but for the most part their rifles run and those that don't usually only need a little tweeking to get running and if all else fails you can return it to century and they will fix it or send you a new rifle. i've been fortunate in that all the century builds i've purchased have run fine but i've read of plenty of guys that have had problems especially with the century cetme's and galil clones.

thanks for the responses so far. Definitely interested in something straight stock, wood furniture. Sounds like I might be able to find something in my range. Those milled receivers sound nice, milled is the higher quality, correct? I gotta get down there to browse, the only thing i've ever bought there has been ammo. Is the 7.62 ammo expensive?

If you have the cash get the Polish on the milled receiver.
Milled refers to the process in which the receiver is made.
Meaning it was cut from a steel blank.
    None milled receivers are stamped.
