Buying a Glock...
I own a 870 tactical, but i'm a first time hand gun buyer.
I have fallen in love with the Gloc for many reasons and it come well
recommended.
I'm looking for a Gloc that has the stopping power I need but can also
be handled by my wife if necessary.
I'm thinking the 30 might be too strong. I will have her try it out, but if anyone can recommend a Gloc with similiar needs such as myself that would
be appreciated.
thanks.

Re: Buying a Gloc...
Are you boycotting the letter K?
It's Glock, not Gloc.
I would advise considering a mid size model like the G19. It is 9mm which will be a little easier and cheaper (ammo) to get some practice in as a newbie and for the lady. You will want to take some basic classes and then more advanced classes later, you are looking at putting thousands of rounds down range. 9mm is about the least expensive centerfire handgun round available right now in this time of highly inflated ammo costs.
The G19 Still a perfectly capable and actually very popular model for CC, OC, or just having i the house. It's a good blend of size caliber and capacity._________________________________________

Re: Buying a Gloc...
Glock.
okay, that's out of the way. have you ever shot a Glock before? if not, you should try one out first. plenty of private ranges rent guns, of all sorts. i've tried them, and didn't like them. the grip angle is too unnatural for me. on the other hand, millions of Glock owners can't be wrong. so, there must be something to them that i can't see.
as far as stopping power, recoil, and related issues, that's really subjective. Glocks are polymer, which absorb alot of recoil, so shooting .45ACP or GAP isn't a big deal. i've shot them in 9mm, .357SIG, and .45ACP. 9mm shoots feels like airsoft, and the other two have a slight rearward push, instead of a snap, like other guns do. i like .45ACP, but not because of any perceived stopping power; i think shot placement is more critical than bullet size. that said, i like the idea of a well placed bigger bullet. practice, practice, practice.
good luck on your hunt, and keep us posted.

Re: Buying a Gloc...
You mentioned you wanted something your wife could handle if needed. What kind of experience does she have shooting handguns? I know the first time I took my lady out, we started on a ruger mkii. Once she was comfortable with that, it was on to the 9x18. And then onto the bigger calibers.
Jules hit the nail on the head. If there are no palces that rent them, see if anyone you know wouldn't mind letting you try them out. Or see if you can find a way to get some trigger time on them. Especially the wifey.

Patriot mentioned the 19. Fantastic pistol and quite versitile too. I agree with Jah about the placement and feel of a .45ACP.
PM me if you want and we can meetup. I currently have a 33 and 21 SF and would be happy to give you a trial run on them.

Re: Buying a Gloc...
Glock 23 in .40 s&w, the recoil is light and the gun is relatively small. .40 s&w has many loads generating over 500 ft lbs of energy, which is right on par with .45 acp.
